Thermal Management Research Support Engineer

Projektbeschreibung

Work with the Thermal Management Research engineers to understand, plan and execute all project test activities including, but not limited to, establishing instrumentation requirements, instrumentation installation, data acquisition, test design, material procurement, test article build and manufacturing as well as test execution. Additionally, assist and/or independently execute airflow, water flow, fan testing and other specialized tests in the lab or offsite.

OTHER JOB EXPECTATIONS:
Perform all job responsibilities with a strong focus on safety, demonstrating, through attitude and actions, nothing is more important than safety.
Take ownership of airflow lab by keeping the bays organized, clutter free and safe. Prepare for monthly safety inspections, maintain the lab to 5 Star cleanliness standards and prepare for the annual 5 Star inspections.
Manage all test schedules and setups in the lab. Coordinate efforts with other lab technicians and engineers
Maintain laboratory instrumentation, calibration database and schedules, sending out instrumentation for annual calibrations and repairs as needed.
Keep consumable lab supplies in inventory such as batteries, drill bits, thermocouples, fittings, hoses, plywood.
Maintain the lab storage database and manage and facilitate material shipping.
Quickly become proficient at ordering supplies and parts as identified by the team. This requires thorough understanding of test requirements, performance specifications and material requirements as well as various ordering systems within Machine & Machine Systems Research.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, & BEHAVIORS REQUIRED:
Bachelors Engineering or Engineering Technology degree
Experience fabricating metal and plastics, drill press, grinders, hand drills, hole saws, and hand saws.
Proven ability to work successfully with computers, including Microsoft Office experience.
Ability to successfully communicate and interact with other team members, customers, and management.
Learn all Standard Test Procedures
Understand the capabilities and types of various sensors used for cooling tests, airflow tests such as thermocouples, pressure and flow transducers.
Proper instrumentation techniques needed for conducting all types of Thermal Management and airflow test on various test set ups.
Proper techniques for setting up and building test mock-ups, including use of hand and power tools to manufacture and build unique tests.
Proper techniques for setting up and conducting tests on the airflow plenums
Setting up and troubleshooting all related data acquisition systems and associated software used to perform all lab testing and field testing
Execution of airflow, and thermal performance tests.
Learn the requirements of technical report writing.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
The position requires one to climb ladders, torque bolts, and install delicate instrumentation, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employee must lift and move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision, and ability to adjust focus. The work environment noise level is loud at times.
