Thermal Analyst - Mechanical Engineer

Thermal Analyst required for a leading Aviation company based in Cheltenham within the Avionics and Displays business to meet increased demand for support on existing and new projects. The team is responsible for the mechanical design of electronic equipment for civil and military applications. In this role you will utilise your experience and expertise in conducting thermal analysis of these products. You may also be asked to support other mechanical engineers in conducting analysis and test.

Essential Responsibilities:

- The knowledge and experience to interpret written requirements and specifications and propose a thermal management solution to meet them.
- Conducting thermal analysis of electronic equipment by hand calculation and use of engineering software tools to assess the design against the environmental requirements.
- To identify and quantify risks in the thermal management plan and contribute to the Risk Register.
- To define any engineering tests deemed necessary to de-risk a design and validate the analysis.
- To assist project management in reporting of status and progress to agreed plans.
- Support project, customer and supplier meetings including presentation of thermal analysis of designs.
- Support environmental testing.
- Experience in coaching other engineers in delivery of analysis and thermal testing.
- May also be asked to support other mechanical design tasks.

Qualifications/Requirements:

- A degree in mechanical engineering or similar subject, or equivalent experience.
- Proficient in the use of Mentor Graphics FloTHERM thermal analysis software.
- Experience in the thermal design of electronic equipment.
- Competent in the use of MS Office suite of software.
- Ability to work well within a team environment.
- Ability to own tasks, show initiative and work with minimal supervision.
- Good problem solving and solution building skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Fully conversant with relevant drawing standards.
- Experience with configuration control methods applicable to analysis, drawings and MCAD models.

Desired Characteristics:

- Experience with Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
- Previous experience in an aerospace development environment.
- Knowledge of materials and finishes as appropriate to aerospace equipment.
- Knowledge of manufacturing techniques and process for electronic products.
- Ability to estimate and manage own workload on multiple tasks.
- Creation of part and assembly drawings.
- Willing to extend work hours on occasion to suit project demand.
