Square One are looking for an experienced Developer/DBA to come on board for a 6 month contract working on a Teradata platform paying excellent day rates.

Postgres/Greenplum experience is highly desirable however candidates who have worked with Teradata platforms in a large MPP environment will be suitable for the role.

Responsibilities:
Responsible for the performance, integrity and security of the HODAC Analytical Data Store (Greenplum Database) and other ancillary RDBM's in HODAC (currently Oracle and MS-SQL).
Be involved in the planning and development of the database as well as troubleshooting any issues on behalf of the users.
Maintain data remains consistent across the database
Data is clearly defined and documented
Users access data concurrently, in a form that suits user needs
Provisioning for data security and recovery control (all data is retrievable in an emergency).

Typical Work activities:
Establishing users data and monitoring user access and security.
Monitoring performance and managing parameters to provide fast responses to Front End users
Mapping out the conceptual design for a planned database
Considering both Back End organisation of data and Front End accessibility for end-users
Refining the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model
Further refining the physical design to meet system storage requirements
Installing and testing new versions of the DBMS;
Maintaining data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act;
Writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary
Controlling access permissions and privileges;
Developing, managing and testing back-up and recovery plans;
Ensuring that storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly;
Capacity planning
Working closely with HO IT project managers, database programmers and security analysts
Communicating regularly with technical, applications and HO operations staff to ensure database integrity and security
Commissioning and installing new applications and customising existing applications in order to make them fit for purpose.
Security and disaster recovery support activities will be required.

This is a 6 month contract role looking to start on 2nd March based in London paying excellent day rates.
