Telecoms Transmission Engineer

Purpose An opportunity exists for a Telecoms Transmission Engineer to support capital programme delivery. The successful candidate will be involved with the installation, configuration and maintenance of the communications transmission systems which support the electricity operational networks, tools and systems. Knowledge and skills The successful candidate will have: Significant project engineering background and capabilityAn in depth understanding of SDH, DWDM, Ethernet, Synchronisation systems and related ITU-T standardsProven experience of detailed network design of optical networkingProven experience of detailed network design of SDH transmission systems at all levels i.e. STM-1 to STM-16An excellent understanding of protection mechanisms employed with SDH & OTN networks, MSP, SNCP, MS-SPRing, etcKnowledge of emerging converged networks (Transmission and Data)The ability to produce and execute test specifications for evaluation of network equipment and produce documentation of the testing activity and the main outcomes and solutionsAbility to understand the requirements of other networks and interfaces dependant on optical networksAn awareness of the regulatory environment in the Utility industry.A Proven track record in IT project and infrastructure delivery.Excellent organisational skills combined with experience of managing and controlling resources.Well developed inter personal skills with the ability to interact at all levels.
