Telecoms Design Engineer

I am currently looking for a design engineer to work with a key client in Manchester. This will be a long term contract position. Overview of the Position: This is a telecoms design role working primarily on projects where Network Rail is the client. It covers the whole of UK, supporting Arup offices based in London, and the regions including (but not limited to) Bristol, Birmingham and Manchester. Past project experience of working on Network Rail projects is therefore essential. This role will require regular travel to these Arup offices, including Network Rail and client offices located throughout the UK as necessary. It is essential that the candidate has proven experience as Telecoms CRE with the skills to engage with the Network Rail Telecoms counterpart. Qualifications: - Qualifications gained on the job with some form of formal apprenticeship - Educated to degree level / HNC or ONC - Ideally an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer (IEng/CEng) Responsibilities include: - Accountability for all telecoms deliverables, acting as reviewer - Preparing resource and fee estimates - Mentoring and training of graduate engineers - Produce / manage the production of drawings, specifications and technical documents in accordance with the NR GRIP design stages, at least up to GRIP 5. GRIP 6-8 an added advantage. - Interface with other multidisciplinary designers, contractors and Network Rail Project Engineers - Undertake site surveys and produce asset condition reports - Identify, advise, select, supervise / collaborate with sub-consultants (e.g. cable route surveyors) Technical Skills required: - Detailed knowledge of NR Operational Telecom Systems (Operational Telephony, Copper, Fibre, FTN, GSM-R), Line Side Cable Routes and Station Information and Surveillance Systems (SISS). - Knowledge of immunisation, earthing and bonding and EMC requirements - Working knowledge of all other railway systems (Signalling, OLE, P-Way, etc) - Thorough knowledge of NR standards - Knowledge of CDM and its relevance to rail telecoms design - Knowledge of Microstation and AutoCAD (viewing only) - MS Office Package (Word, Project, Excel) Attributes: - Self-starter, proactive - Ability to prepare well-structured, well-written reports - Experience of working in a multidisciplinary environment - Effective client / third party liaison - Apply bespoke and appropriate best practice - not "standard" past solutions - Site based experience - Willing to visit site and liaise directly with contractors Interviews are happening ASAP so please send me your CV this evening if you are interested.
