Contract Term

This is a long term contract opportunity. Potential for permanent position also exists.

Overview
Our Client is seeking is seeking two (2) qualified technical writers to provide approximately 2 years of concentrated effort to develop, standardize and update standard operating procedures.

Role and Responsibilities
Currently, our Client's business unit is re-structuring the existing standard operating procedures management process, including the updating or creation of approximately 1000 standard operating procedures for various aspects of operations, including distribution and collection system maintenance and repair and material management.

The standard operating procedures are to be created with Adobe FrameMaker software and managed in various repositories including Livelink for electronic versions and iRIMS software for hardcopy versions. The successful candidates must adhere to standardized software, pre-determined templates and formats used to develop and manage standard operating procedures. The successful candidates will also be expected to participate in the creation and recommendation of some of the elements of the standardized software, pre-determined templates and formats used to develop and manage standard operating procedures.

The Project Scope for this initial project includes but is not necessarily limited to the following:
The successful candidates will be required to provide technical writing expertise for our Client as noted above. It is anticipated that the project will run 22 to 24 months (80 - 104 weeks) with varying work hours at the in Calgary. While the data and information gathering will occur during regular work week hours, the work volume will fluctuate from time to time requiring the successful candidates to be flexible in providing the service.

The successful candidates will be expected to perform the following, including:
Phase 1:
Under the direction of our Client's Standard Operating Procedures Coordinator, work in conjunction with business support personnel, subject matter experts and records coordinators to manage the updates within the existing workflow process for the document management, control and tracking of the writing, review and approval process for standard operating procedures. Then, in partnership with subject matter experts and operations personnel, implement an automated workflow process.

Phase 2:
Work closely with subject matter experts and operations personnel, under the direction of our Client's Standard Operating Procedures Coordinator, to undertake the writing or revision of approximately one-thousand (1000) standard operating procedures for various operational aspects of the linear systems using the workflow process and document management processes created in Phase 1.

Phase 3:
Utilize the ongoing sustainment plan for the standard operating procedures including processes for the document management, maintenance and sustainment of the standard operating procedures to enable our Client's Business Unit to maintain the records created in Phase 2.

Project Deliverables: Working closely with our Client's on-staff technical writers, subject matter experts and records coordinators, the successful candidates will be expected to: - Develop a twelve (12) month workplan, including timelines and expectations for standard operating procedures development and updates within ten (10) business days of project initiation;
- Execute the workplan;
- Provide monthly progress and quality assurance reporting; and
- Provide ad hoc reporting, as required, in addition to weekly reporting.

Qualifications
Required Skills

- Diploma in technical writing or equivalent with two (2) years of experience;
- Accomplishments in successful delivery of two (2) projects similar in scope and size to the project scope of this requirement, including; i) A record of client-focused and highly-collaborative engagements; and ii) Collaboration with a diverse group of stakeholders in clarifying and articulating common goals and objectives. iii) Proficiency with technical writing related software including: Adobe FrameMaker 9.0, Livelink, Adobe Acrobat Professional and Microsoft Office.
