Technical Writer (Maintenance Procedures)

Yoh has a contract opportunity for a TECHNICAL WRITER to join our client in La Porte, TX.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and write maintenance procedures for use by site maintenance personnel when they are servicing equipment in the manufacturing units.
- Procedures need to be written according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
- Developing the maintenance procedures will require observing maintenance personnel in the field performing work, interviewing vendors, mechanics, and technical personnel, and researching available documentation.
- Organize material and write maintenance procedures according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
- Edit, standardize, or make changes to procedures prepared by other writers or plant personnel.
- Maintain records and files of work and revisions.
- Lie out and select material for procedures. This will include but not limited to: Conferring with vendors and/or plant personnel to establish technical specifications and to determine subject material to be included in the maintenance procedures.
- Selecting photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts to illustrate material.
- Studying drawings, specifications and vendor equipment manuals to integrate with maintenance procedures, sequence and detail.
- Interviewing Production, Maintenance and Engineering personnel, and read journals and other material to become familiar with technologies and Maintenance methods.
- Review manufacturer's and trade catalogs, drawings and other data relative to operating and servicing process equipment.
- Reviewing existing procedures and determine the need for revisions.
- Draw sketches to illustrate specified materials or sequence.
- Interact with maintenance personnel to gather all information necessary to create equipment specifications and tasks.
- Observe Maintenance activities as equipment is being serviced.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- BA/MA, English/Journalism/Technical Communications; BS/MS, Engineering/Computer Science; or equivalent related experience.
- Two years in technical writing.
- Technical editing background.
- Fluency in: Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe Acrobat, Visio, HTML, Paint Shop Pro.
