TECHNICAL WRITER

SKILLS: Bachelor's Degree, MS Word, Understanding of applications and infrastructure/operations (ITIL), documentation of SLA's and SOP's

SUMMARY

Work for this premier university inside the perimeter! 3-6 month contract. The Technical Writer designs, creates, proofs, edits, maintains and organizes technical documentation for communicating IT information. This may include knowledge base articles, technical and service documentation, by combining strong communication skills, document management, and technical expertise.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Collaborate with both technical and non-technical staff to craft technically accurate, comprehensive documentation appropriate for a wide variety of mediums, topics and audiences.
- Develop and publish policies, processes, procedures and standard work in accordance with audience requirements.
- Provide support as needed to successfully implement and transition to new and re-designed processes, procedures and standard work.
- Analyze documentation to design, implement and assist in full adoption utilizing MS Word and potentially ServiceNow
- Provide professional writing services for technical documentation as required.
- Identify operational efficiencies and improvement opportunities through analysis and recommend improvements. Creatively and proactively seek out alternative solutions to problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

- BA in English, Communications or a related field, or Technical Writing certification, or equivalent work experience.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office software suite and third-party tools such as ServiceNow or Wiki pages.
- Experience with operational documentation including SLA's and SOP's
- Ability to create documentation from scratch
- Ability to effectively and professionally communicate, both orally and in writing, as well as the ability to articulate and translate technical language to non-technical customers.
- Excellent work ethic, initiative, and self-motivation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrates an understanding of impacts or results of actions and exercises good judgment.
- Appropriately engages teammates and leadership for direction.
- Aptitude for gaining a thorough understanding of the business and actively applying it to individual work.
- Extensive experience working in a customer-focused environment. Demonstrated ability to assess root issues and provide excellent viable solutions for the business and to the customer.
- Understanding of IT and documentation standards such as ITIL, COBIT, ISO
- Knowledge of both applications and infrastructure/operations
