Technical Capacity/Performance Lead - Infra/Finance - Sydney

THE CLIENT

Our client is one of Australia's leading and largest Financial Services Organization that has expanded its operations beyond the Australian shores. The organization has a large range of financial offerings to both public and private clients across the retail, corporate and institutional banking areas. They have a very large technical footprint that combine a dynamic range of technologies in a complex landscape.

THE GROUP

This Performance team has a very large remit, to evaluate and improve bank wide systems with a focus on high availability, performance, scalability and reliability. Comprised of Solution Performance Engineers they are accountable for the availability health of key production systems with a particular focus on governing, evaluating, managing and influencing non-functional risks & attributes across the solution delivery life cycle (requirements, design & architecture, testing). This accountability traverses to the production environment with accountability for capacity planning and providing quality assurance over the accuracy of tactical performance, capacity and availability analytics delivered by other teams. This group has been organically grown over the last 36 months and now, due to their excellent success record of improvements, they have been given a wider remit and larger projects.

THE ROLE

It's been decided that a team of dedicated capacity specialists be added to the group starting with a Technical Capacity Lead and then 1-2 additional Capacity Specialists, all to have a very strong technical (infra) focus. As such you'll have already "cut your teeth" on infrastructure and been involved in capacity planning in large and complex environs but in this role you'll rise to a more enterprise level as you'll look at how all areas/layers with the environment (Application, Server, DB, Network) interrelate and ultimately affect large, high volume web portals. Essentially you'll be responsible for the analysis of these systems and to work with the business to optimize, eliminate bottlenecks and project future usage with ultimately means leading and capacity plan, capacity modelling and delivering capacity forecast and inputs from other teams. There's a big drive for self-service capacity tools, business development and evaluation for change.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

- Evaluating bank wide systems across multiple technologies.
- Perform complex technical capacity planning that evaluates for project changes, demand fluctuations and growth.
- Scope solution design and ensure fit for purpose on the metrics of traceability/availability.
- Identify non-functional risks commensurate with design and manage to closure.
- Provide technical requirements documents/guidelines for operational monitoring.
- Create non-functional test cases (performance, load etc ) to mitigate risks.
- Provide recommendations to business for further investment in capacity.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

- Strong background in Infrastructure Solutions/Design (Windows/Linux/Unix/Networks) - Ideally exposure to all.
- Strong experience with Capacity Planning and Performance managing of complex, large scale technology systems.
- Experience with Infrastructure Capacity Modelling and delivering capacity forecasts.
- An understanding of how the Infra layer relies on and relates to other layers: Network/Application.
- Experience performance tuning large, complex web portals and/or Back End systems - experience in Telco, Gaming/Betting, Trading Systems would be advantageous.
- Strong Holistic Technical Background spanning a multiple disciplines.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Experience working with Solution designers/Architects.
