Technical Author - P/T Contract (Average 20-25 Hours per week)

Our games client is looking for a technical author to write and edit information products, mainly SDK/API information for developers (library overviews and reference documentation, tutorials and developer tool user guides etc.). and any other content as required.
This is a part time contract role with flexible hours averaging 20-25 per week. The initial contract is for 12 months and renewable thereafter. The work will be home or Cambridge office based, with visits to the central London office as required.

Experience and skills required:

- Strong technical writing and editorial skills and solid experience creating technical documentation for software, consumer electronics or networking products.
- SDK/API reference documentation experience.
- Strong technical skills - you need the ability to read C, C++, C#, or Java code and read comments in the code and make sure they tally. A programming background would be ideal.
- Detail- and process-oriented; able to comply with style guides and other technical writing and information design standards.
- The ability to develop a strong knowledge of the technical information requirements of the developer community.
- Knowledge of content development solutions and/or XML and related best practices, such as single-sourcing, structured authoring principles, terminology management, and content management.
- The ability to master in-house and third-party technical documentation and localisation automation software and routinely use project tracking systems, content management systems, and databases.
- Strong communication, listening and analysis skills, especially the ability to communicate with software engineers.
- Competent user of industry standard content authoring software and documentation formats such as MS Word, XML, HTML, PDF, and CHM.
- The ability to handle technical authoring projects autonomously in a fast-paced, changeable project environment.

Any of the following is desirable: Knowledge of OO programming principles; game programming/development principles; 3D graphics programming; able to work with code-commenting tools/processes (Doxygen, Doc-O-Matic, JavaDoc); knowledge of component content management systems (CCMS) used for topic-based documentation projects; understanding of single-sourcing technologies.
