CAPITA ONE, part of Capita Children's Services, develops software that supports over 120 Local Authorities in England and Wales who require a single view of 'a child' to improve decision making, and enable early intervention and prevention.

Capita Children's Services provides Management Information Solutions for Schools and Local Authorities. The Publications team provides user documentation to support the use of our software.

To produce and maintain clearly written, high quality user documentation within applicable timescales, to accompany releases of Capita Children's Services One software.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Produce clear, concise and well written user documentation including handbooks, product notes, online help and any other applicable user documentation.
- Learn and understand the business systems and applications for which the documentation is being prepared.
- Obtain, interpret and organise applicable information from other areas of the business (such as project teams, Service Desk, business analysts, development etc.). Gather and analyse the information, ensuring it meets the needs of our users.
- Attend regular project meetings and liaise with project team members.
- Plan and manage authoring projects to ensure that documentation meets defined standards and is produced within agreed time scales.
- Revise/edit existing user documentation to reflect the current version of software.
- Test documentation to ensure that it matches the finished product.
- Liaise appropriately with the project team on any potential errors or areas for improvement, identified in the software, in order to contribute to its overall quality.
- In all dealings with both internal and external customers, the job holder should project a professional image and provide the best possible service within his/her capabilities.
- Any other task set out by the Publications Team Leader and Head of Publications, UAT and Customer Care, which will be linked to business needs and/or customer requirements.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

- Experience of Technical Authoring, preferably within a software environment or experience of similar user documentation production, such as course notes, procedures, etc.
- Experienced and proficient with one or more screen grab packages such as Paintshop Pro.
- Extremely literate with a good grammatical knowledge.
- Excellent overall communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Excellent time management, planning and organisational skills.
- Experienced and proficient Word and Adobe Acrobat user.

PREFERRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

- Experience of at least one authoring tool (preferably RoboHelp and Doc-To-Help).
- Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Captivate or similar software.
- Knowledge of the Education sector is advantageous.
