Technical Author

Our client are one of the world's leading companies engaged in the development, delivery and support of leading-edge aerospace systems for the defence industry. They are seeking an experienced, SC cleared technical author for immediate start.

Role Purpose

To produce technical publications and illustrations for the company's products to the required specification. To create Data Modules (DM) and illustrations within a Common Source Data Base (CSDB) environment. Maintain various spreadsheets used within the Tech Pubs Dept, initial review of change data, preparation and tracking of work packages and final preparation of publications for printing.

As a Technical Author your key responsibilities will include:

* To produce technical publications and illustrations in a variety of different specifications, to a high standard and in a timely fashion.
* Produce estimates for technical documentation production when required.
* Prepare and co-ordinate work packages for external suppliers for quote and document production.
* Effectively research the data required to author/illustrate a specific job using drawings and in-house documentation.
* Manage daily workload and set priorities in consultation with the Lead Author.
* Perform a thorough self-check of authored material and check other authors work when required.

Your competencies will ideally cover:

* Document control: Adherence to engineering procedures and compliance with regulatory standards. Disciplined approach to iteration and configuration control procedures.
* Innovative: Demonstrates an ability to apply creative solutions to problems.
* Attention to detail: Can demonstrate the ability to produce work to a consistently high quality and set high personal standards within tight schedules.
* Good communication skills: Demonstrates good verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills and an ability to communicate at all levels.

Your Qualifications & Experience will ideally include:

* Sound electro-mechanical background in an aerospace environment.
* In depth knowledge of S1000D, ATA iSpec 2200 and associated specifications.
* Conversant with ATA100 and AvP70 specifications.
* Common Source Data Base (CSDB) experience.
* Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETP) experience.
* In depth knowledge of FrameMaker or Epic authoring software.
* In depth knowledge of Isodraw and CorelDraw illustration software.

Please note that as our client work within the defence industry, you will be required to be eligible for UK MOD SC level Security Clearance, the minimum requirement for which is residence in the UK for at least 5 years.
