Role
The Technical Consultant will be part of a team of technical subject matter experts that make up the TDO. 

This role's primary purposes are to:           

- Support the tead and the Lead Technical Solutions Architect in the completion of technical tasks and completion of technical documentation.
- Comply with the tactical direction for all technological aspects within in accordance with the clients policy, procedures and guidance.
- Manage, perform and co-ordinate work required to be completed by the TDO for a technology refresh currently underway according to the priorities defined by the work package leads.
- Be entrusted and empowered to make sound Technical design and product decisions in a timely and responsive manner.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Creating Technical and Project Documentation for the existing environments.
- Assist in the solution design of elements of the current programme of upgrades to the systems. 
- Providing subject matter support to the change request processes,  project management and ad-hoc support for assistance. 
- Providing technical assurance to the Service Operations team as the most senior point of technical management escalation, providing instant expert guidance and advice in order to resolve incidents and satisfy change requests as and when required. 
- Design and deliver infrastructure software installation packages for use within the environments.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

- It is essential that the individual has exceptional proven experience in the provision of technical solutions in a large disparate organisation.
- Demonstrated high level technical competence in infrastructure software technologies:                                       
- Client and server operating systems including Microsoft, UNIX and Linux variants.                                          
- Database management systems and application Servers with a particular predominance of Microsoft and Oracle based technologies.
- Open source technology including, web Servers (eg Apache), Java deployment (eg Tomcat and Glassfish), PHP and Scripting languages eg Perl and Shell.
- Identity Management technologies to include SAML, LDAP, Shibboleth and Microsoft Active Directory and their integration across disparate vendor products.
- Security products, eg file and channel encryption.Virtualisation, primarily VMware
- Demonstrated detailed technical competence in infrastructure technologies:               
- SANs, Servers, racks, media libraries, storage, virtualisation and backup.                                
- Networks - LAN, WAN, routing, network switching and carrier technologies (particularly Cisco and Juniper).            
- Demonstrated understanding and exposure to PRINCE2 managed projects and PRINCE2 documentation and processes.
- Broad knowledge of external IT developments and emerging best practice, including strategy, architecture and planning.
- Good technical team skills and the capacity and self-motivation required to meet the demands of tight timelines and rapidly evolving priorities.
- Good technical authoring skills and experience of defining and documenting technical procedures.
- Excellent communication and co-ordination skills.

EXPERIENCE        

- At least 5 years experience at a senior level in infrastructure software solution design and development.          
- At least 10 years general relevant IT experience.
- SC or DV cleared
