SYSTEMS SUPPORT TECHNICIAN BOSTON, MA CONTRACT THROUGH FEBRUARY 2015

The Systems Support Technician is responsible for the operating activities of one or more functional departments and/or branches. The role consists of providing onsite Site Services support for Remote Data Center Management teams. We are searching for candidates who have Level 1 troubleshooting experience in deployment and operational support in an enterprise Data Center environment. The candidate should be an IT generalist and have junior level experience in performing maintenance of file Servers, application Servers, database Servers and network devices.

OVERVIEW:

- Physical replacing of network cabling (network, SAN)
- Physical Reboot of UNIX and Windows Servers
- Physical reboots and cable changes for network devices such as Routers and Switches
- Physical reboot of AS400 devices
- Log into devices mentioned in items 2 through 4 to perform other troubleshooting (Note: system administration for Servers and network equipment not a standard part of this position)
- Media management: loading and unloading backup tapes by running maintenance commands; prepping them for offsite delivery
- Server Provisioning & Retirement: physical installation of new Servers into the environment, including cabling and physical racking (but not OS installation)
- Provide escort to 3rd party vendors onsite, track visits via log
- Inventory Management, Shipping/Receiving, and Asset Management
- Facilities responsibilities: environmental walkthroughs, Data Center Access Control, etc.
- Duties may include, but are not limited to, creating or maintaining operation policies, return procedures, scheduling, quality assurance, billing, cost analysis, reporting, or inventory reconciliation

QUALIFICATIONS:

- 2+ years of work experience ensuring a stable, supportable production environment required
- At least 1 year experience in the following: Windows Server Administration, UNIX Server administration, SUN and Intel hardware troubleshooting, Routing and Switching knowledge
- Entry to junior level experience in Solaris and Windows Server administration
- Very strong Performance Troubleshooting experience
- Hardware remediation (Hard Drives, Processor, Memory, System Boards)
- Legato backup Systems
- Strong communication skills and organizational sense
- Strong troubleshooting and problem resolution skills
- Hardware experience should include: SunFire and HP Proliant Enterprise Server Lines, Cisco Enterprise Routers (7200, 7600 series) and Switches (6500 class)
- Server racking, Patch Cabling, Familiarity with SAN (EMC, Cisco)
- Network+ certification or be in the process of obtaining this certification a plus
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to be client-facing a must
- Good general knowledge of networking
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high pressure environment
- Flexible working hours, including shift-work
