Systems (Software) Engineer

Background
We are currently recruiting for a Systems Engineer for an 8 month contract based in Bristol. You will be supporting the Systems Engineer Manager. The key responsibilities are to ensure the client's new system is fully verified against its requirements, maintain the systems configuration baseline and to understand the full functional abilities of the system to support configuration change decisions. These activities are critical for ensuring the system is fit for its continued role in current operations and that it is suitable to support future contingent operations.

Main Duties/Responsibilities
The system is undergoing a major upgrade as part of the client's current project. The new system has a multitude of abilities for which only the minimum are currently verified to support the Urgent Operational Requirement. You will be responsible for verifying the full extent of the system ahead of its transition into the core equipment programme and sustainment for future contingency operations. You will need to develop an in-depth knowledge of the system's abilities which is critical to supporting the project's Concept and Assessment phases.

Outputs/Deliverables to be achieved
You will also be responsible for, but not limited to, the following.
- Ensuring the stakeholder community is kept up to date with compatibility matters relating to other Defence systems.
- Assessing the impact of system change proposals, helping to develop cost and time estimates to support.
- Maintain the system configuration baseline.
- Take over responsibility for the maintenance of the architecture document set.

Skills/Experience Required
- You must have a good understanding of hardware and software functionality and putting together test plans
- This isn't a hands on testing role, this is managing/coordinating industry to conduct the testing on behalf of the client
- This post does not require line management
- It is highly desirable that you have a degree (ideally in Electronics, Engineering or Computer Science)
- It is also highly desirable that you have SC clearance (if you don't you must be eligible to go through this clearance)
