Systems Engineer

We are looking for a Systems/Project Engineer to join a market-leading Aerospace and Defence company on a number of exciting projects.

This position would suite a competent senior or principle design engineer with experience in one of, or a mixture of the following engineering disciplines:

Electrical and Electronic Engineering

Signal Processing
-

Mechanical Engineering
-

Control/Algorithm/Signal Image Processing Engineering

Optical engineering or Related

A systems engineer needs to understand the whole system and its components from their unique technical view to guide a project to a successful conclusion. To be successful you will need to demonstrate the capability to work with combinations of technologies, an understanding of how to architect and integrate them in a logical, structured way, in a system that will fully satisfy a Customers requirement/specification.

You will be working in a large community of Systems Engineers, with a wide variety of experience.

The role is based in Glasgow which specialises in Optronics products including:

Naval - Periscopes and Optronics Masts

Armored Vehicles - Sighting and Situational Awareness Systems, Remote Weapons Stations and integrated digital mission systems

Sensors - Laser Range Finders, Thermal Imagers
-

Airborne - Reconnaissance Pods, Tracking Equipment

TECHNICAL SKILLS

You will be able to demonstrate that you are enthusiastic about modern technologyy and methods and have an aptitude for Systems design methodology based around the INCOSE (International Council of System Engineers).

You will have good communications skills, both verbally and written. You will have the professional behavior and discipline to work efficiently in a team, with Customers and with Suppliers. You will need to share your knowledge with colleagues and require a thorough understanding of the, organisation, goals and needs of the project team.

A Systems Engineer is expected to support state of the art electronic hardware and firmware development, mechanical assemblies and software development as well as various other engineering specialities required to bring a complex design to conclusion.

You will be expected to demonstrate an aptitude for personal development and keep appraised of current technology trend

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

Ability to work closely with colleagues in teams, both technical and non-technical

Good knowledge of electronic, mechanical and software systems

Experience in a senior design position within at least one of the following Engineering disciplines:

Systems Engineering

Electrical and Electronic Engineering

Signal Processing

Mechanical Engineering

Control/Algorithm/Signal Image Processing Engineering

Optical engineering or Related

DESIRABLE:

- Doors, Rhapsody and UML

Ability to use tools such as Matlab, Simulink, MathCad and frameworks such as SysML to effect Model Based Systems Engineering

Awareness of architectural frameworks such as MoDAF, DoDAF, NAF, OAF.

Knowledge of relevant Development Lifecycles

The ability to present and explain technical and complex problems at the correct level for an audience

Experience of specification or customer requirements capture and analysis

Awareness of Environmental & Electromagnetic Compatibility and their effects

Experience of the principles of design change and configuration control

Cost and Schedule planning awareness

Engineering and Industrial Commercial awareness

Safety in design and design for the environment

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

You will have a Bachelor Degree (BEng, BSc) in a Numerate, Scientific or Engineering subject or Higher Education/equivalent training and experience. Masters Degree (Meng, MSc) or postgraduate level in Engineering, Physics or Mathematics-related subject is also an advantage.

SC CLEARANCE

Candidates will start on a baseline clearance but must be eligible for SC clearance.
