SYSTEMS ENGINEER SEATTLE, WA 6 MONTH CONTRACT

Our hugely popular client is looking for a motivated and creative Systems Engineer who will be passionate about delivering standardized and stable Information Technology operating systems, applications and networks through problem identification and analysis, problem resolution, application security administration, system design and planning activities. Designs, documents and implements moderate to complex technical solutions. The team is upgrading to the latest version of Kronos Workforce Central. The Systems Engineer will work cross functionally with other Infrastructure teams to deliver production and non-production systems.

SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Work with cross functional IT teams as well as the vendor to install, automate and configure web based applications and various technical products on Windows Operating Systems (includes core applications, service packs, customized objects as well as Windows server tools and applications).
- Configure web and Application Server components that meet vendor specifications.
- Determine tier 1 and 2 application software version compatibilities.
- Create scripts that will be used to automatically update client software (tier 1) for IE, Java, Flash and other identified changes.
- Provide extensive troubleshooting, proactively identifying issues and driving them to resolution, as well as accepting escalations for issue resolution, to deter and/or halt impacts on software development cycles.
- Quickly come up to speed on client infrastructure and application architecture for the current installation as well as how this will translate into the new architecture for the upgraded version of Kronos.
- Define, design, document and deploy application monitoring tools.
- Design, develop, implement and document moderate to complex technical solutions and ensure deliverables are high quality with business and technical expectations met.
- Perform general system management, including installation, configuration and maintenance.

- Analyzing, diagnosing and proposing solutions to system problems: 6 years
- Technically savvy in several disciplines related to Information Technology: 6 years
- Systems engineering, design, planning and deployment: 6 years
- Experience using, defining and developing monitoring tools: 6 years
- Experience working within a project management framework: 6 years
- Experience implementing and supporting 3-tier application architecture: 4 years
- Diagnosing and troubleshooting system problems in a complex and varied systems environment: 6 years

REQUIRED SKILLS:

- In-depth expertise and hands on experience with Microsoft Windows 2008/2012 (64bit) Server products in an enterprise environment
- Proven expertise with Scripting languages; PowerShell and DOS (Auto-It a plus)
- Experience with JVM and Java Enterprise Edition (J2EE)
- Experience with JBOSS Application Server technology and configuration
- Experience with IIS 6 and 7 web server technology
- Remote management of systems and applications
- Experience in building and implementing application monitoring tools, specifically Splunk
- Oracle SQL experience of running and building queries and pulling data from tables
- Kronos (or other Labor Systems), Source Control Systems, VMWare, Load Balancing, network and/or application security a plus
- Experience with Linux/Unix OS a plus
- Familiarity with C# and C++ a plus
- Ability to interpret faults and correlate events for problem determination within a large varied and complex systems environment
- Knowledge of a variety of operating systems and technologies, problem management tools, and diagnostic and monitoring tools
- Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve systems problems and issues
- Ability to accurately estimate design and build timelines
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to quickly learn new technologies
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
