Systems Engineer

Yoh has a Contract opportunity for a SYSTEMS ENGINEER, TERMINAL INFRASTRUCTURE to join our client in the San Pedro, California area.

JOB OVERVIEW:

The Systems Engineer will design, implement, and assist with the daily operation of the enterprise infrastructure and related applications. The position will be responsible for the information technology infrastructure that supports the critical systems based at our shipping terminal locations. This position will require broad experience with all infrastructure technologies including Servers (Microsoft Windows, IBM AIX, HPUX and/or Linux), wired and wireless IP Networking, storage, clustering/HA solutions and ITIL Service Delivery processes. Position will require significant travel (up to 50%).

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

- Terminal Infrastructure Operations (50%) Maintains highly critical 24x7x365 environment by providing coverage and support for all Servers. Adheres to and helps improve existing change control and documentation processes.
- Deploy and Improve Infrastructure Architecture (40%) Engineers and administers clustered resources for high availability. Implements new Servers, first in a test network and then in production. Coordinates the standards, approaches, and processes for adding and removing network resources (Servers, desktops, printers, user accounts, etc). Maintains a.clean* physical and logical environment. Engineers and administers corporate data storage resources consisting of SAN, NAS, and other systems.
- Security and audit (10%) Maintains a secure infrastructure by ensuring that all server and desktop systems are up-to-date with the latest security patches and fixes. Reviews all security bulletins as released by vendors and determine the priority and the plan for updating systems while maintaining a stable production environment. Manages the server infrastructure to meet regulatory requirements. Participates in system audits.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

- BA/BS degree Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent field is preferred.
- Five plus (5+) years' experience designing and administering Microsoft Windows Servers, workstations, and notebook solutions.
- Two plus (2+) years' experience designing and administering UNIX/Linux environments. Strong preference for HPUX on west coast and IBM AIX on east coast, Red Hat Enterprise Linux at all locations).
- Four plus (4+) years' experience designing and administering Cisco-based IP Networks. Strong preference for experience designing and deploying wireless networks in outdoor, industrial environments.
- Two plus (2+) years' experience with building and administrating virtual environments.
- Two plus (2+) years' experience working in a 24x7x365 highly available environment.
- Current knowledge of the Microsoft Windows OS, Active Directory, Group Policy Management, network protocols, SAN, NAS, HP, EVA storage arrays, NetApp storage arrays, Symantec Backup Exec, Commvault Backup Solutions, desktop applications (such as the Microsoft Office suite), vSphere 4.1, vSphere 5.0, and Windows network configurations in a global enterprise environment.
- Experience with architecting and deploying data storage solutions to meet varying business needs within a corporate enterprise.
- Extensive experience automating builds on Servers, workstations, and notebooks.
- Demonstrate and apply rigorous, process driven project management principles in delivering technology solutions.
- Ability to produce utilization reports and perform capacity planning for Servers. (ie disk utilization, memory, etc).
- Subject matter expert in data storage and retrieval and responsible for all aspects of systems configuration, performance, and operation.
- Ability to create evaluation, test and implementation plans for new technology and approaches. Provide hands on support of all server and Workstation standards, desktop management, software deployment, systems administration, and data integrity and recovery; ability to diagnose and troubleshoot server networking and server issues using appropriate monitoring and diagnostic tools.
- Microsoft Certified Master (MCM) or Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) certification strongly is preferred.
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP) is preferred.
- Be able to move and rack/un-rack Servers (approximately 150lbs) and related hardware with assistance. Flexibility to work in both industrial and office environments.
