SEPA is Scotland's principal environmental regulator. But we do much more than solely regulate. Our overall aim is to protect our environment and human health, and contribute to sustainable economic growth.

The scope of our responsibilities is extremely broad; including problem-solving, environmental improvement, addressing climate change, sampling and monitoring, reporting on the state of our environment, advising on environmental issues, protecting citizens and communities from environmental harms, publishing environmental data and information, raising environmental awareness, preparing for future environmental issues, encouraging positive environmental action, and regulation. In order to meet these responsibilities we employ a diverse workforce across our offices situated throughout Scotland.

You will work directly with business representatives and project-based Business Analysts to define detailed technical specifications for development projects. As well as developing systems for the Environmental Assessment, Reporting, and Regulatory arenas, you may support the EU (LIFE) funded Scotland's Environment Web project and engage in partnership working with our public sector partners. It's the chance to gain knowledge of cutting-edge Linked Data and Open Data technologies, as well as more traditional web and Oracle RDBMS based systems.

Fully conversant with the software development life cycle, you will have considerable experience of systems analysis, design, development and implementation in an Oracle environment backed up by a degree or equivalent in computing-related field. An understanding of analysis techniques, Case Tools and project management principles is essential, and ideally you will have some knowledge of GIS and spatial technologies. You'll also have the ability to communicate complex technical information clearly, concisely and in a range of formats. Experience of managing people would be desirable.
