System / Sonar Design Engineer

Position: System Design Engineer - SMS System Design
Job type: Contract (12 Months Initially)

Location: Dorset easily commutable from Christchurch, Portsmouth, Weymouth and with excellent access from and Hampshire and Bournemouth
Rate: £48.14 per hour LTD

OUTSOURCE UK LTD is actively seeking to recruit a System Design Engineer-SMS System Design for a contract role on behalf of a client.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
The successful System Design Engineer - SMS System Design candidate will be responsible for the following:

Working within the Signature Management group the successful candidate should possess a strong track record within the Systems Design area with a sound knowledge of Sonar characteristics.
Undertake concept design studies, considering options in all aspects of Systems Engineering.
Perform requirements analysis and traceability.
Produce System and Subsystem designs for our client's programme.
Liaise with Suppliers and the programmes Systems Team Members to agree technical solutions, coherent with the programme and Common Combat System Design.
Undertake functional design and provide specialist advice and qualification for their scope of responsibility.
Produce evidence in support of qualification, legislative requirements, safety, security and fitness for purpose justifications, and provide specialist support for associated activities.
Contribute to identification and rapid closure of issues emerging from all product life cycle stages and manage the resulting change embodiment activities.
Provide realistic programme status, identify problem areas and implement agreed recovery plans.
Undertake peer reviews or checking/verification tasks as directed.
Articulate and present detailed technical argument clearly, logically and simply.
Gain a clear understanding of and apply the Quality and Safety, Health & Environment Management System documentation (eg Process Instructions, Workmanship Standards, Risk Assessments) applicable to your particular work scope.
Liaise with both internal and external customers as required ensuring that their requirements are adequately supported and that their needs are fully considered and incorporated where appropriate and agreed.

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS & KNOWLEDGE
Degree, HNC or equivalent qualification in Engineering or an appropriate related discipline or similar
Extensive experience of submarine acoustic signatures
Knowledge of network and high performance processing systems design.
This should include both hardware knowledge from an architectural level and understanding of network protocols eg. TCP/IP
Extensive experience of complex system design and qualification
Knowledge of Systems Engineering methodologies

Essential
- Experience of requirements management including requirements capture and analysis
