System Engineer (SAN/Vmware)

Currently a number 1 in their particular field this business has the backing of a larger group and has invested heavily in it's IT infrastructure. They are looking for a strong engineer with SAN and Vmware experience who has come from a windows environment and has a basic understanding of networking.

The company offer excellent training and the potential to be part of a successful but relatively small team where there is an opportunity to make a big impact immediately. This position is primarily responsible for maintaining and enhancing the SAN/VMware infrastructure. The focus of the role is to ensure a stable, robust environment and to make recommendations for improvements where appropriate. A productive working relationship with the Regional IT Team is essential and Regional/Global IT policies and procedures must be adhered to at all times. The role will be split into project and BAU work.

Responsibilities:

- Install, configure, test and maintain storage/VMware infrastructure
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all storage/VM infrastructure
- Ability to identify, diagnose and resolve server, VMware and storage problems and document resolutions for future reference
- Monitor system performance and implement performance tuning for maximum efficiency
- Strong analytical abilities and the ability to identify improvements to systems where appropriate
- Excellent communication and project management skills to ensure projects are well managed and communicated effectively
- Assist in preparation of proposals and solution presentations
- Review all changes to IT Infrastructure to ensure minimal downtime specifically representing storage/VMware cluster environment
- Ensuring all local, regional and global policies are followed at all times
- Stays informed of new technologies and maintains industry knowledge
- Available for on call roster on a rotational basis (monthly)
- Providing training for IT staff on new systems/technologies and producing Training/How To documentation

Technical Requirements:

- Vmware (VCP certification preferred)
- SAN management experience
- Microsoft experience (MCSE or MCITP preferred)
- Knowledge of Active Directory, Exchange
- Understanding of networking (Cisco)
- Strong communication and social skills

The company use 3par SAN infrastructure so this vendor is preferred but they are happy to consider strong SAN management via other vendors.

Whilst the above items are the key responsibilities for this position the position holder is also expected to contribute towards maintenance and support in all other aspects of the IT environment (eg network, applications, workstations etc).
