System Design Engineer

My Client, a world leader in providing technology solutions for high performance systems in multiple industries is currently looking for a system design engineer based in Chelmsford on a 3 month rolling. As the system design engineer you will be responsible for the technical aspects of the life cycle management process and the project management process for the duration of the project.

System Design Engineers accountabilities:
Delivery - Work with the work-package managers and program manager to:
Maintain an overview of the system to ensure that it will meet the technical requirements as the Programme System Design Authority.
Ensure that a life cycle process is followed including the appropriate design reviews.
Ensure the required Assurance Technical aspects are consolidated and approved at the appropriate Lifecycle Gates.
Own of the technical aspects of risk reviews
Ensure that all interfaces are accurately captures and maintained
Ensure that new designs are suitable for manufacture along with the understanding of the design and yield trade-offs.
Drive a structured resolution of technical issues and the associated MRB reviews. Champion the Customer design reviews and evidence the appropriate compliance maturity.
Work with the quality engineer to implement DFMA and FMEA processes
Assist in the development of the systems project life cycle management process within the company
Capture customer requirements, identify gaps and define solutions.
Support the Programme Manager in the development of project plans to ensure that all technical aspects are covered
Act as the key technical customer interface on systems programmes
Supporting the bidding process with technical analysis of new requirements and the development of solutions
Work with the Systems Engineering manager to establish a technology roadmap to build the technology base to support future projects
Ensure accurate flow-down of specification and SOW requirements to subcontractors
Responsible for technical reviews of subcontractor activities.
Subcontractor Customer acceptance and design authority.

Skills Required:
Degree level experience in Engineering or Physics or equivalent
Chartered Engineer or working towards it
Currently SC cleared
A proven track record and an extensive experience in successfully controlling the technical aspects of delivering complex systems based product development projects preferably for Space based customers.
This should include some experience in all aspects of system design including hardware, FPGA, software and mechanical design
Experience of flow-down of requirements to critical subcontractors and technical control of the subcontractor
Evidenced understanding of Capability and requirement trade off within User Capability requirements and solution requirements.
A detailed understanding of the methodology required for successful delivery of development programmes such as DFMA and FEMA and experience of ISO/IEC 15288
