A great opportunity has arisen for a bright, proactive individual to work as a Superintending Officer within the Nuclear Industry. If you have a proven track record in a similar environment, this could be the role for you.

Our client is a waste management company that provides services to customers to treat and dispose of low level radioactive waste; they oversee a national programme to ensure that lower activity waste is managed effectively.

Your key responsiblilites will include:

* Ensuring that Contractors plan and manage their work safely;
. Coordinating the work of Contractors;
. Ensuring that relevant information is exchanged between LLWR and the Contractors;
. Auditing and inspecting the safety standards of Contractors under their control;
. Investigating injuries and incidents;
. Ensuring that Contractors Remedy any defects or shortcomings which are identified during audits, inspections etc;.
. Ensuring the contractors employ competent persons and perform work to the required quality;
. Delegating duties to and managing Nominated Representatives.
* Arranging pre tender site visits and identifying and specifying the applicable procedures the contractor will need to comply with;
. Assist the Procurement Officer with the assessment of tenders and provide a copy of the assessment to the Procurement Officer;
. Assist the CDM Principal Contractor with the production of a pre tender Health and Safety Plan and subsequent H
. Assist the Procurement Officer with the production of the site information pack for tenders
. Authorising as the Pass Sponsor, the application and renewal of site access and maintaining a list of individuals who are sponsored by the SO or their NRs;
. Providing liaison between Contractor and LLWR Limited;
. Ensuring that Contractors are provided, where necessary, with local induction for the area in which the work will be undertaken;
. Ensuring the Contractor provides a suitable and sufficient risk assessment and Safe System of Work SSOW;
. Ensuring that radiation protection requirements are complied with;
. Ensuring that environmental issues are addressed;
. Ensuring that welfare and Industrial Relations (IR) issues are addressed;
. Ensuring that the Contractor maintains a high standard of housekeeping and ensuring audits of the Contractors' areas are carried out;
. Ensuring that the accident and incident data is collected on contracts under their control;
. Informing the Head of Site and Duty Manager immediately if an accident/incident occurs, raising an Event Report and ensuring that it is investigated;
. Ensuring the completion of a 'Contractors Performance and Contract Completion;
. Formal assessment report at 12 monthly intervals and at the end of the contract;
. Ensure that regular minuted meetings are held with the contractor;
. Ensuring that Contractors have been included within the site emergency arrangements whilst on site;
. Ensuring that where necessary contingency plans have been developed to maintain safety and retain knowledge should the Contractor become unavailable;
. Ensuring that the Contractor identified for the work is competent for the work package and have the appropriate level of training for the work to be undertaken.

Essential/Desirable Skills

Essential Skills/Qualifications
. HNC/HND in engineering preferred, ONC/OND or an approved apprenticeship with adequate experience,
. Knowledge and experience of CDM regulations.
. Knowledge of management of contractor's procedures for a licensed site. Desirable

Skills/Qualifications
. Basic IT proficiency.
. IOSH managing safety or equivalent.
. Ability to guide and coach other staff.
. Can demonstrate having the ability to engage others to create a harmonious working environment.
. Adaptable and resilient to participate in a number of projects at the one time.
. Good communication and team working skills.
. Knowledge and experience of human performance safety principles.
