Sub Contract Manager

The primary focus for this role will be the management of our Private Venture (PV) material/sub-contract commitments both tangible and intangible in there nature. The role will be both tactical and strategic in its nature. There will be requirements to deliver Product Development programmes as well as reporting to the Procurement Manager Key performance metrics.

Tasks will require an ability to demonstrate value to the business by aligning a supply base that strategically supports the future demand of the business for PV and Customer funded technical programmes that closely align to our technology and capability roadmaps. Other key metrics will focus on ensuring that the PV budgets/forecasts are managed in line with our Customers' expectations.

This role will require a demonstrated ability in the management of internal and external relationships and require broad experience of working cross functionally in order to influence a breadth of business decisions throughout the life cycle management (LCM) with a particular focus on the early LCM life cycle. An understanding mechanism of mitigating risk associated with entering into commercial agreements. The individual will be an expert in internal customer management, promoting customer intimacy and team working and skilled in all other functional specific requirements, business awareness and other non-functional competencies.

Cost avoidance, quality, innovation, continuity of supply, time to market, collaboration, risk and opportunity exploitation as well as an ability to demonstrate strategic supplier management are all key parameters to develop product and business winning differentiators.

Skills, qualifications & knowledge

- Requires appropriate training to degree level or equivalent or significant relevant work experience. (MCIPS preferred)
-A good working knowledge and understanding of Procurement within the Defence/Aerospace industry and ability to apply them with minimal supervision and direction
-As well as hardware the ability to procure in-tangible services linked to training, software and professional services
- Relationship building skills with cross-functional colleagues, customers and suppliers.
-To have operated within a Commercial role requiring strong technical knowledge within the Defence/Aerospace industry
-A good understanding of the Legal Aspects associated with contracting within the Defence/Aerospace industry
-A good understanding of Export Compliance associated with contracting within the Defence/Aerospace industry
-An ability to think 'outside of the box' offering solutions to enable the function to add value and innovation

Key responsibility areas

- Cross disciplined evaluation, selection and development of suppliers - leading Make/Buys decisions when required
-Drive and lead the generation and review of 'appropriate' specifications and Statement of Work
- Early involvement in product technology requirements with influence to cost, availability, exportability, manufacturability etc.
-Demonstrate the ability to strategically align the emerging demands of the business with a supply base that is going to be fit for purpose offering solutions and value
-Delivery of sub-contract tasks and other procurement-related services as may be required to support various programmes
-Ensure the timely delivery of both tangible and intangible deliverables to support the various IPTs
-Maintain robust Procurement Plans in line with LCM for those projects on which engaged
-Manage the supplier deliverables in line with programme/project milestones
-Demonstrate adherence to agreed budgets
-Ensure commitment and forecast spend is under control
-Cash flow management
-Management of material forecasts
-Capture Engineering requirements and commercially communicate to the supply base
-Work with stakeholders in order to understand Internal Customer demand
-Communicate potential opportunities/risks across the business
-Task and develop a team to achieve the goals of the business.
-Management of Export Compliance
-Draft and prepare complex contracts/purchase orders, other agreements and internal approvals in line with standard and non standard formats.
-Establish integrity in complex pricing models in order to ensure accuracy and compliance with standard formats.
- Function focal point for customers/suppliers regarding contract and supply base issues.
-Identify solutions for complex areas of potential risk/opportunity eg sub-contract risk, liability and exchange rate exposure etc. and deliver solutions to offer mitigation.
