Structural Engineer- Inspections, low rise, Medium rise, high rise, co

A leading public sector organisation requires a Stuctural Engineer to join their team on a contract basis. The contract will initially last 4 months but could extend and is looking to pay between £25,000-£30,000 on a pro rata contract. The ideal candidate will have experience carrying out inspections on low rise, medium rise and high rise buildings. Any experience in a council or borough environment would be advantageous but is not a necessity.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provision of prompt and robust structural engineering advice as required by the service.

2. Making sure that advice provides a  balanced view and takes into account the needs of residents and the resources available to the Council.

3. Responsible and accountable for the design of remedial works, selection of materials and calculation of loads and stresses.

4. Responsible issuing instructions to contractors and effectively managing remedial works on site.

5. Procuring effective consultancy support as required in line with Council Standing Orders.

KEY CHALLENGES

1. Providing robust advice to tight timescales.

2. Ability to consider the broader risks to housing assets when assessing a structural problem, for example are neighbouring properties, assets or similar archetypes affected.

3. Making sure contractors comply with required standards and sufficient supervision arrangements are in place.
