Yoh has a contract opportunity for a STAFF SCIENTIST to join our client in Berkeley, CA.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Contributes to development projects, from laboratory to commercial manufacturing, by applying a broad range of scientific principles.
- Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of unit operations and broad scientific concepts and applies this to the process development process.
- Independently designs and conducts process development experiments, assays, or operational procedures of considerable complexity with considerable discretion as to work details requiring complicated scientific analysis, operational planning and execution.
- Based on scientific understanding of the process, applies GMP requirements to process development, clinical manufacturing, and process/assay transfer activities.
- Analyzes and interprets results, systems or procedures; troubleshoots failed experiments, assays or procedures; and makes changes as appropriate. Ensures that specific goals are achieved.
- Exercises sound technical judgment to solve a wide range of complex scientific problems.
- Overcomes obstacles and develops experimental approaches.
- Recommends new and innovative solutions to problems utilizing high degree of scientific creativity, independent thought and proficiency.
- Identifies technology gaps and makes recommendations to management.
- Assists, counsels and manages project or departmental activities and ensures the flow of communications; assumes project leadership; and/or interim supervisory functions.
- Interprets and effectively communicates complex scientific findings and recommendations in one-on-one discussions, and departmental; functional and international meetings.
- Fosters team based approach to research.
- Keeps abreast of current and new science and technological developments with regard to literature/publication within field of specialty and exploits them to continuously improve functional area capabilities.
- Provides first-authored, complete, and quality internal and external reports on technical achievements.
- Contributes to scientific literature and conferences.
- Develops patent applications.
- Ensures that laboratory notebooks are consistently updated, audited and well-maintained.

Job Qualifications:
- Must have prior cell-based assay experience - preferred four to five (4 - 5) years of experience. Prior exposure to a cGMP environment desirable.
- B.S. with a minimum of 12 years relevant experience.
- M.S. with a minimum of 10 years relevant experience.
- PhD with a minimum of four (4) years relevant experience.
- or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated ability to independently design, execute, analyze, and interpret experiments, systems, methods development, validation, and scale-up or operations involving, but not limited to, cell-based assays, qPCR, HTRF, ELISA, and 1 & 2 dimensional electrophoresis and Western Blotting.
- Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot problems requiring original thought.
- Demonstrated knowledge in field of expertise (ie - of literature, new developments, technologies, and regulations).
- Understands how GMP requirements are applied to practice over entire process development cycle.
- Ability to exercise judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criterion for obtaining results.
- Ability to identify gaps in technology and operational systems and solve complex and diverse operational and scientific problems requiring original thinking and deductive reasoning.
- Ability to apply scientific principles to the design and interpretation of scientific experiments.
- Previous experience leading a project team and demonstrated success with significant contributions to major milestones of project by applying a broad range of scientific/technical principles.
- Demonstrated success for technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others and independent thought.
- Demonstrated ability to present ongoing scientific/technical work at internal/departmental seminars.
- Has contributed to concept project proposals or technologies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including writing of scientific and technical reports and presentations.
- Good working knowledge of SAS JMP, PLA, and Microsoft Office.
