(SR.) TRANSPORT NETWORK DESIGN ENGINEER

SCOPE:

Mobile Access (eg 2G, 3G, 4G, WiFi, etc )

- Transport (eg IP Core, IP backhaul, Transmission Core,  Access Transmission backhaul, Data InterconnecT, Peering, etc )
- Fixed Access and back haul (eg Fixed xDSL, FttH, CPE, DSLAM, Datacenters, etc )

THE MAIN OBJECTIVES TO ACHIEVED ARE:

Produce Network Master Planning according to the marketing requirements

- Radio Access network detail design
- Fixed Access network detail design
- Transport network (FTTS/MSPTP, FttMDF, SDH/PDH/ATM, Fiber/NGMW, IP core, IP backhaul etc) detailed design
- Based on the detailed design, create ready to implement data build (ie planned configuration, IP address & switch port management, parameter list) for the Access and Transport network solutions (including access Transmission, Core Transmission and IP network)
- Provide configurations plan for transport network infrastructure on the HUB and Backbone locations
- Pre-sales support/Prospect Process for the business sales department
- Support of the Network architecture and Solution teams in various studies.
- 3rd line support of problems in the transport network.
- Technical approval of the implemented designs ie link performance, FTTS etc 

OVERALL PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The  Transport Network Design Engineer is responsible for all detail design, data fill and RFC aspects of the Transport network including

-  Access transmission network (eg FttS, MicroWave, Leased Lines, MSPTP etc ),
- Fixed Access and backhaul (eg Fixed xDSL, FttH, CPE, DSLAM, BRAS, Datacenters, etc ),
-  Core Transmission (eg Fiber, SDH/ATM, DWDM, etc ) and
-  IP network (eg IP Core, IP backhaul, etc )

The Transport Network Design Engineer will translate the transport network high level designs as defined by the Solution department into ready to implement low level designs.

THE (SENIOR) TRANSPORT NETWORK DESIGN ENGINEER ROLE:

Oversees the day-to-day activities of work for the team and acts as the main contact person for the Access & Transport design team, with focus on taking in requests and tasks (eg projects, analysis) from the manager or organization and allocating these among the (internal and external) team members.

- The senior role accepts the ownership and coordination of timely delivery, next to the expected engineering tasks associated with the Transport Network design Engineer role in general
- Possess an in-depth knowledge/skill and is also able to apply this knowledge/skill to solve complex problems and issues
- Acts as a facilitator and mentor and is able to move the team forward
- Builds an environment that supports co-operation among the work team and with other areas within the organization

QUALIFICATIONS: 

- MSc. or BSc. in Telecoms or Electrical/Electronic engineering or relevant practical experience.
- Fluency in English is required and Dutch is preferred.
- Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills
- EXPERIENCE:
- 1-3 years experience in Telecom or an IT environment with exposure to access and transport networks
- For the senior 3- 5 years experience in Telecom or an IT environment with exposure to access and transport networks
- Proven experience in working in project/process driven environment

EXPERTISE:

- In-depth knowledge of mobile network architectures
- In-depth knowledge of transmission concepts and topologies
- In-depth knowledge of fixed network architectures (xDSL, DSLAM, BRAS, GPON, FttH)
- In depth knowledge of telecommunication standards(Routing, TCP/IP, MPLS and Ethernet, SDH, PDH, ATM)
- Good understanding of optical transmission systems
- Experience of geographical information systems (GIS) tools, MS excel, MS access and other computer-aided-design tools
- Excellent knowledge of/experience with Routing and Switching equipment on a third level
- Good knowledge of/experience with Radius and on Unix system administration is a pro
- Experience with IP Networking, in particular the Cisco, Juniper and Huawei range of equipment.
