SQL Server Database Administrator

Background
Our central government client has a 4 month requirement for SQL Server Database Administrator based in Bristol.

Main Duties/Responsibilities
As part of an existing application support team, and under supervision of the team manager, the contractor will provide live support for PINS SQL Server Databases running in clustered and single node configurations. Most Databases are using SQL Server 2005 on Windows Server bit, although some are using SQL Server 2008 on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64. Although this is primarily a DBA role, we expect the successful candidate to assist in other team activities as required to ensure the successful support of live systems and projects in development.

Skills/Experience Required
The successful applicant will demonstrate excellent knowledge and experience of SQL Server 2005/2008 Database Administration including. Installation, configuration and maintenance of SQL components. Backup & recovery strategies. High-availability solutions. Database Replication. Database Performance Monitoring. SQL Agent Jobs. T-SQL programming. Ability to seek out required information which may be undocumented. Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken.. Ability to work on a self-sufficient basis. Ability to learn a system from 'hands on' use. Ability to work comfortably within a fast changing environment, reacting quickly and positively to change. The following skills are Highly Desirable. Experience with Open Text Products (Livelink 9.7.1 or Content Server 10). System Administration experience (to include IIS configuration). Experience of designing and developing SQL Server Business Intelligence (BI) solutions including Experience of using the Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008 BI components (Analysis Services, Integration Services, Reporting Services) Design and deployment of BI solutions for data analysis and reporting

Formal Qualifications Required
No formal qualifications are essential, but formal DBA certification is highly desirable.
