JOB DESCRIPTION
This position is all encompassing. The individual will need to be competent in all things SQL Server. This position requires someone with an in-depth knowledge of the SQL environment from needing to know how to architect, set up, and trouble shoot SQL Server clusters, mirrors, and replication. This individual will also need to know and follow best practices for SQL instance installation and securing SQL instances including Kerberos authentication methodology. This individual will also be responsible for the day to day administration of the SQL environment to include but not limited to backups, dr planning and drills, job management, troubleshooting and system optimization including utilizing the built-in functionality of DMVs. This individual will also need to have keen development skills in SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS to include the ability to write, debug, and optimize stored procedures and triggers. This individual should also be an expert in table design following the rules of normalization for OLTP environments and de-normalization for OLAP environments. The individual should be an expert at index optimization. This individual will also perform migrations into production which will include creating and running scripts to determine what objects and data from the TEST environment will need migration into PROD. In short, this individual is expected to be competent in the skill sets to tackle any functionality of SQL Server. This position was posted as a "Project Lead" and the individual is expected to have the knowledge and skill set to be a project lead.

SCOPE OF THE PROJECT:

ONGOING PROJECT TO ENABLE DSS TO BETTER SECURE, MANAGE, IMPEMENT AND MAINTAIN SQL SERVER ENVIRONMENT. THIS POSITION WILL IMPACT AGENCY'S ABILITY TO MEET FEDERAL GUIDELINES AND PROGRAM INITIATIVES.

* Recommends tools and resources to monitor SQL Server activity and provide key statistics and performance measures.
* Researches and evaluates new technologies to improve SQL Server functionality.
* Analyzes and troubleshoots problems related to SQL Server Environment.
* Knowledge and experience with SQL Server 2005 or above.
* Knowledge and experience with SQL Server connection protocols including Kerberos and NLTM.
* Create, Write, Trouble-shoot and Deploy SSIS packages.
* Creates triggers, stored procedures, and query optimization plans.
* Creates normalized database objects.
* Creates SQL Server maintenance plans for DR planning and business continuity.
* Installs SQL Server as per best practices.
* Practical knowledge of SQL DBMS objects such as system databases and recovery models.

REQUIRED SKILLS (RANK IN ORDER OF IMPORTANCE):

* Backup and restore methodologies.
* Experience with failover clusters and load balancing and other high availability strategies.
* Experience troubleshooting bottle necks in SQL Server.
* Knowledgeable/experienced with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS. SSAS, SSIS).
* Skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
