Purpose of the Job
The post holder will be required to provide a face-to-face money advice service to clients identified by local authority Housing Options workers as having problematic debt issues. The advisor will conduct a full assessment and provide clients with a financial statement outlining their options, including ways to avoid having to leave their homes due to welfare reform.

Duties and Responsibilities for a Specialist Money Advisor
1. Casework
1.1 Providing the full range of advice activities to assist clients with debt advice and income maximisation problems, including those with multiple debts, both priority and non-priority owed to commercial and statutory creditors.
1.2 Dealing with contentious and complex debt advice problems, including mortgage and rent arrears re-possession cases, bankruptcy proceedings, and Consumer Credit Act disputes.
1.3 Preparing cases and supporting clients, where appropriate, at County Court and Magistrates Court as well as assisting clients who are self-representing.
1.4 Advising on and assisting with income maximisation issues, including assisting with benefit and tax credit claims and associated problems.
1.5 Identifying other on debt/income maximisation social welfare advice needs and signposting or making referrals to other agencies where necessary.
1.6 Keeping accurate and detailed case records.
1.7 Completing statistical information records compliant with organisational and funding requirements.
1.8 Providing outreach advice sessions and forming effective working relationships with host agencies, and also undertaking home visits.
1.9 Providing clients affected by welfare reform with a range of options, where possible, to keep their home.
2. Service Development
2.1 Taking part in service planning activities to help ensure the service meets project targets.
2.2 Taking part in activities to raise the profile of the service within the Housing Options service.
3. Supervision, training and professional development
3.1 Attending relevant training courses and appropriate internal and external meetings, to enhance skills as a money advice caseworker.
3.2 Consulting relevant colleagues to ensure that working practice is of a high quality.
3.3 Keeping up to date with all relevant current legislation and policy.
3.4 Providing feedback to trainers and own manager or supervisor on the effectiveness of learning activities.
3.5 Taking part in regular supervision meetings with their line manager.
3.6 Participating in supervision and file review of colleagues as ongoing development.
4. Other Duties
4.1 Work within the policies and procedures of the organisation.
4.2 Complying fully with the organisations Equal Opportunities policy/ies.
4.3 Servicing own administrative needs, eg typing letters, maintaining case records, entering statistics on databases etc.
4.4 Undertaking any such other duties as may be identified and which are generally compatible with the functions of the post.
4.5 Generally advice services are delivered during working hours, however, we may deliver some services during evenings and weekends. You must be willing to work during any of these out of hours services.
