Sitec is urgently looking for a Special Process Technologist to work within the Turbines Laboratory for a multinational aerospace orgnaisation based in Derby. The Ideal candidates will be from a Metallurgical or Materials Science background and will have experience of at least one of the following: EDM (Electro discharge machining), ECM (Electro chemical machining), grinding or welding.
Role
In this role you will be responsible for validating and controlling special processes associated with the machining of turbine blades. These include: Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM), Electrochemical Machining (ECM), Grinding, and Fusion Welding.
The role will also require:
- Microscopy assessment - Assessing process parameters to specifications and publishing the associated laboratory validation report.
- Engaging and communicating with Manufacturing Engineers to ensure the appropriate metallurgical assessment is performed.
- Engagement with our embedded supplier to clearly communicate micro preparation instructions. - Updating and reviewing of Laboratory process instructions, with-in both the Turbines Laboratory and embedded supplier, as necessary.
- Providing assistance with internal special process audits and will help the facilities in preparation for NUCAP audits.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills/abilities:
- Experience with microscopy techniques and micro evaluation of metallurgical features.
- Knowledge of aerospace materials.
- Knowledge of at least one machining special process; including, EDM, ECM, Fusion Welding or Grinding. - Highly self-motivated, capable of working under minimum direction, with a proactive and thorough approach to problem solving and process compliance.
- An ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, at all levels on technical issues needs to be demonstrated. - Qualified to degree level or above in Materials Science, Metallurgy or an appropriate Engineering discipline. Or have suitable laboratory metallurgy experience.
- Knowledge and experience in multiple machining special processes.
- Knowledge of Nadcap requirements and experience with preparing and hosting audits would be advantageous.
- Experience with aerospace materials, particularly with Ni based super alloys.
- Knowledge and experience with single crystal casting metallurgy.
