Solutions Designer/Infrastructure Architect

The Role

Solutions Designer:

- The Solutions Designer will develop technical infrastructure designs for cross platform projects using a wide variety of hardware and software technologies.
- Working closely with Stakeholders and Business Analysts the Solutions Designer will design appropriate infrastructure solutions to support defined business requirements and software architectures

Other duties will include:

- Producing documentation to a high standard. Documents can include, but are not limited to, design specifications, test plans, technical impact analysis and tender documents.
- Providing subject matter expertise and knowledge transfer to support teams when required.
- Agreeing designs with the Governance Committee and continuing to monitor them for the life cycle of the project.
- Act as a point of technical referral for the department in respect of solutions developed, as required.

Key Accountabilities

Technical Direction

- Assist and lead the deployment of system Infrastructures including infrastructure and application solution for defined projects.
- Provide subject matter expertise to other Solutions Designers as required

Project Delivery - Gather information to understand scope of project, and produce clear definition of technical deliverables with accurate estimates.
- Suggest appropriate options and recommend a chosen solution, including associated tasks (test strategies, etc) which meet operational principles.
- Build and maintain a thorough understanding of an end to end solution design.
- Produce and review technical and support documentation to a standard that will achieve sign-off from all necessary parties

Relationship Management

- Effectively participate in project and technical meetings, representing both Infrastructure Projects Technical Services and your technical specialism.

Monitoring and Control

- Raise issues and risks in a timely manner to the project manager.

Skills & Experience

Technical Knowledge:

Essential:

- Previous experience of providing technology based infrastructure design for large IT departments.
- Demonstrable experience of the successful delivery of technical infrastructure or system integration projects (preferably in a multi-tiered environment)
- Excellent analytical ability.
- Demonstrable experience of using project methodology and structured frameworks.
- (Essential) In-depth understanding of Blade compute infrastructures - primarily HP
- (Essential) Wide experience in implementing SAN and distributed storage infrastructures with in-depth knowledge of EMC products such as vMAX
- (Essential) Experience with common application infrastructure deployment models for Oracle database and Oracle Middleware application products.
- (Essential) In-Depth knowledge of implementing infrastructure solutions to support VMware ESX and Citrix Xen Desktop Virtualisation
- Knowledge of other network related protocols and solutions: DNS, AD, DHCP, QoS, SNMP

Desirable:

Experience with Oracle applications deployment for any of the following:

- Siebel UCM
- Oracle SOA Suite
- Oracle Enterprise Database 11g
- Oracle WCC
- Oracle OBIEE

Experience with the following technologies:

- Oracle Exadata
- Windows
- Linux
- iSeries
- IBM server/SAN
- Brocade
