SOLUTION DESIGNER - DATA CENTER MIGRATION (DCM) PROGRAM - FOR A BANKING ORGANISATION

VILNIUS, LITHUANIA

Background:
Our client is running a program on Consolidating their Data Centers leading multiple streams of migration of infrastructure. They are looking for SOLUTION DESIGNER with a very sound experience in having undertaken solution design in a Data Center Migration program.

ROLE: Solution Designer

LOCATION: Vilnius, Lithuania

INITIAL CONTRACT PERIOD: 1 year

START DATE: ASAP

OVERALL JOB PROPOSE:

You will be covering technical domains like UNIX, Windows, Storage, IBM Mainframe, Tandem, Middleware, Networks, Security, System Management, Information Security etc. This is not an exhaustive list but is intended to demonstrate the complexity and range of technologies that make up a Solution design.

You will be providing solutions for assignments that are small to large in size (£100K - £10M+), which are complex and critical in nature.

The ideal Solution designer will have a deep knowledge in more than one technology and a broad knowledge of many other technologies.

You will also be responsible for ensuring technical domains comply with the Bank's strategy and policies through the medium of component patterns and standard building blocks.

THE IDEAL SOLUTION DESIGNER SHOULD HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS:

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

In-depth knowledge and expertise of specific technical platforms:

- Aware of the history of platforms and can explain how it came to be as it is
- Solid knowledge of all the major components in a vendor's solution
- Competent in discussing the technology with vendor escalation support team
- Knowledge of integrating technologies

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL IT ENVIRONMENT:

Deep understanding of the internal and external environment related to own IT department/function:

- Can identify the specific functions and responsibilities and key customers and relationships of own IT department/function
- Can describe rationale for major IT initiatives and identify major IT issues
- Able to interpret and apply policies and standards
- Contributes to the development and implementation of standards and procedures
- Has a working knowledge of one or more of the components in the technology strategy
- Can identify the technologies in all the architecture patterns
- Can discuss potential risks and benefits of emerging technologies
- Has participated in the evaluation and implementation of new technologies

BUSINESS KNOWLEDGE:

Familiar with the details of at least one business:

- Experience of liaising with peers in business
- Is respected and consulted by business area peers
- Can propose system solutions within component or application to business issues

REQUIREMENTS ANALYSIS (BUSINESS):

Experienced with standard methods, tools and techniques for requirements definition:

- Can describe deliverables associated with the requirements analysis and definition
- Able to produce detail-level functional and non functional requirement documentation

DEVELOPMENT/CONFIGURATION

Has an understanding of the overall development process:

- Conducts walk-through and monitors quality of the solution development activities
- Knowledge of the major tools in a toolkit for a specific platform
- Experienced with testing complex, multi-platform, distributed applications
- Can discuss considerations for selecting optimal testing environment for specific applications
- Has experience with alternative implementation plans

SERVICE DELIVERY

Understands how service delivery applies to own technical function:

- Has an understanding of SLA's and capacity plans and understands how to measure service delivery with metrics and targets
- Understands the different availability and continuity services offered by own technical function
- Understand performance measurements for hardware, software or network components
- Familiar with key monitoring requirements and tools and techniques employed in supporting applications
- Understands all major internal support functions and services

SERVICE SUPPORT

Understands how service support applies to own technical function:

- Has experience of incident & problem management disciplines
- Has strong operational knowledge of the service desk and incident systems
- Familiar with technical documentation standards, guidelines and best practices

PRODUCT AND VENDOR EVALUATION

Can detail overall considerations, including risk, and business, to provide a recommendation:

- Has played an active or lead role in preparing business assessment deliverables
- Can discuss pros. and cons. of various leasing options such as site, network or server based
- Can identify and explain the relationship between cost and value of support
- In-depth experience in evaluating products or services from multiple vendors
- Has designed and developed vendor selection criteria and requirements

SECURITY MANAGEMENT

Has a working knowledge of the key issues in implementing security systems:

- Experiences with tools and techniques for building audit and control into an application
- Familiarity with check pointing, back-up and recovery
- Familiar with existing policies and practices
- Experienced with a security process within an application and an operating system
- Has an understanding of the operational issues and considerations for securing information

IT ARCHITECTURE

- Familiar with integration and implementation issues and their architectural implications
- Experiences in the integration and migration of existing and planned platforms
- Active in defining architectural principles and standards
- Can discuss issues and considerations for an open architecture
- Knowledgeable about existing best practices for system or technology integration
- Can discuss major issues, interfaces, considerations and potential pitfalls risks
- Has prepared technical design reviews
- Explored and evaluated design considerations for multiple technologies

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERTISE

- Awareness of industry best practices in IT
- Knowledge of IT structure and functions within GTIS and the services and product set of the Group
- Conversant with IT architectures and design practices.
- Expected to keep abreast of emerging technologies and their potential for use
- Strong technology cost and value management

EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS SPECIFIC TO THE ROLEEssential

- Broad experience of IT solution design and architectures
- Capable of bringing together expert knowledge from across the organisation and consolidating into a cohesive Solution design
- A forward thinker
- The ability to effectively communicate and sell complex IT solutions
- Experience in leading virtual teams in a complex IT environment
- Effective cost management and commercial awareness
- Focus on Risk Management including an understanding of Group policies
