Software Development Engineer in Test - Ruby or Scala

Software Development Engineer in Test required to join our agile team based in Victoria, London. This will be an initial 6 month contract working on a Government based project and requires a talented and self driven individual with at least 5 years exposure to development within Scala or Ruby.

The ideal candidate must be able to liaise with Product Owners and Business Analysts to understand business rationale behind stories and also collaborate effectively with other developers to ensure that our test suite is efficient, clean and easy to maintain.

The primary responsibility for this role will be to lead the on-going development of our acceptance test suite, written in Cucumber and Ruby. It will involve working closely with the test lead and the other developers. It may also involve core (non test) software development (using Scala and the Play framework) if the candidate is interested in this.

ESSENTIAL APTITUDE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

- Experience coordinating user acceptance testing
- Able to jointly agree and write BDD features in clear and concise plain English
- Experience developing code for automated tests, preferably using Cucumber
- Expertise in development using Ruby and/or Scala and a good understanding of their associated community
- Working knowledge of command line tools (eg bash), version control (eg using Git), CI (eg using Jenkins)
- Significant experience working in an agile team
- Strong aptitude for troubleshooting and problem solving
- Commitment to clean code and software development best-practice.
- Driven to use the appropriate design idioms to modularise our codebase making it easier to understand and maintain
- Keen to share knowledge with other team members

DESIRABLE

- Experience with Capybara, RSpec and phantom.js
- Understanding of JavaScript and Ajax
- Working knowledge of web services, particularly REST
- Familiarity with MongoDB
- SC Clearance
