Software Developer - Cloud Environment

Excellent opportunity for experienced Software Developer to work with a Global Technology Company in support of Prototype and research development.

Our client is seeking a motivated, driven open source software developer to support prototype development for testing and demonstrating of challenging research concepts in the areas of long term digital preservation and cloud computing (SOA/IoS/SaaS architectures).

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with an experienced team working on cutting edge research in the area of cloud computing.

Education and Qualifications/Skills and Competencies

- BSc/MSc/MEng/BTech in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or related subjects. PhD in Computer Science or related subjects (or 3+ years relevant industrial experience is also considered).

Recent experience in software engineering, object-oriented design and development with a good understanding of software engineering principles and UML based design - more specifically:

- Java development (3 years plus)
- Software services development (Cloud)
- Experience with build systems (eg Maven)
- Unit and Integration Testing, Code Management (eg SVN,GIT)
- Experience with software design techniques and UML modelling
- Knowledge/Experience of Open source software tools, especially Apache project
- Experience with RUP, Agile or other software life cycle processes an advantage
- Development/integration experience with OpenStack deployments and/or other open source virtualization (Xen, KVM) and storage manageability tools including backup tools, P2V, V2V, inventory tools.
- Experience working with large data sets in virtual environments.
- Experience of networking/services, interfacing, test driven development.
- Research track record and/or innovative industry record.
