Site Reliability Engineer Job

SITE RELIABILITY ENGINEER (SRE) is needed for a CONTRACT opportunity with Yoh's client located in SUNNYVALE, CA.

THE BIG PICTURE - TOP SKILLS YOU SHOULD POSSESS:

- Exposure to Java, Shell Scripting, PERL
- Understanding of the internals of Linux
- Internal infrastructure of applications

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

- Proactively monitor availability and performance of the Ariba Cloud using key tools.
- Effectively and quickly respond to Monitoring alerts, incident tickets.
- Perform extensive application and web site troubleshooting to quickly resolve the issues
- Monitor performance of all deployed applications and tune environment when necessary to ensure maximum performance.
- Escalate issues as needed to back line production operations teams or Engineering per documented procedures
- Ensure user tickets and monitoring alerts are handled per pre-defined SLA's for response time, updates and closure
- Script/code monitors and tools to address mission critical challenges
- Handle communication and notification on major site issues to the company and executive management team
- Document resolution run books and standard operating procedures
- Ensure smooth hand offs between shifts
- Install, configure and maintain system applications including DNS, Sendmail, Bind, SSH, TCP/IP and NFS.
- Maintain enterprise mass storage systems and network filers.
- Work with the DBA team and other Ariba teams to troubleshoot database issues and recommend solutions
- Troubleshoot critical database performance issues and propose solutions.
- Develop and/or select and implement continuous database monitoring tools.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING TO THE TABLE:

- Exposure to applications
- Java
- Shell Scripting
- PERL
- Understand the internals of Linux
- Candidate should understand how applications drive platforms and interact with databases
- Understand internal infrastructure of applications
- Five to seven (5-7) years of experience working in a Unix environment
- Good working knowledge of NFS and NIS.
- Excellent knowledge of operating system internals, file system structures and machine architectures in a Linux operating environment.
- Experience with enterprise backup systems.
- Experience with automated installation tools such as Kickstart.
- Strong understanding of network concepts, TCP/IP stack and common Internet protocols.
- Oracle database administration experience
- Experience with Oracle 11G, DataGuard.
- Experience providing database backup and recovery support
- Ability to write and maintain Perl and Shell Scripts to automate processes and enhance productivity.
- Good knowledge of PL/SQL, and stored procedures.
- Ability to quickly identify and solve problems in a fast paced environment.
- Experienced working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with well-developed practices and procedures
- Outstanding interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills
- Must be reliable and dependable with ability to multi-task
- Effective team player, able to work closely with peers and other operations or engineering teams.
- BA/BS degree in MIS/CS or equivalent experience
