Service Maintenance II (Truck Relief)

The Service Maintenance II (Truck Relief) employee performs a variety of tasks in maintaining and improving the Zoo's buildings and grounds. Performs Truck Driver duties on the days off and in the absence of the Truck Driver as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Performs skilled and semi-skilled duties requiring limited independent judgment including:
-

Turf, landscape and exhibit maintenance functions such as seeding, sodding, fertilizing, mowing, trimming, aerating, soil preparation and grading and spraying pesticides in accordance with state laws.

Minor building and facility maintenance including, but not limited to, painting, wallpapering and minor repairs.
-

Road and path paving, drainage tile, storm sewer repair and other construction projects.
-

Minor mechanical repairs and service to lawn and janitorial equipment.
-

Constructs and repairs picnic tables and barricades.
-

Installs landscape ties and/or block retaining walls.
-

Proficient in the operation and maintenance of all minor equipment relative to janitorial and park maintenance fields, ie, janitorial and lawn care equipment.
-

Inspects playground equipment and keeps records as required by law and performs minor maintenance.
-

Erects and maintains rental tents, set-up of tables and chairs for meeting and events.
-

Moves furniture, files, cabinets, supplies, etc.
-

Maintains public areas of Zoo (ie cuts grass, trash/recycling/debris pick up)
-

Assists in duties related to composting and recycling
-

Cleans/disinfects and restock supplies in public restrooms.
-

Performs snow removal and de-icing roads and paths.
-

Performs shipping/delivery tasks and maintains warehouse and storage areas.
-

Provides work direction to seasonal and part time employees, as assigned.
-

Performs all tasks assigned to Service Maintenance Level 1 using independent thinking and minimum supervision.

Installs/replaces paper towels, soap, toilet paper dispensers, as assigned.
-

Provides construction labor for General Maintenance and Horticulture Departments for renovation and other construction projects as directed.

Keeps Manager - Zoo Grounds and Services informed of key issues.
-

Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain safe work environment and surrounding. Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action, and promptly notifying supervisory personnel.
-

Follows prescribed purchasing procedures.
- Performs related duties as apparent or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

-

High school diploma or equivalent, with at least 3 years experience in park maintenance field or equivalent.
-

Valid Ohio commercial driver's license (CDL) preferred.
-

Forklift Operators license.
-

Successfully pass physical capacity test (paid for by Cleveland Metroparks) to perform outdoor labor and normal duties (ie continuous lifting of up to 80 lbs.)
-

Possess or obtain pesticide license desirable.
-

Basic computer skills.
- MUST BE A NON-SMOKER/TOBACCO USER.

EQUIPMENT USED (NOT LIMITED TO);

Manual and automatic vehicles including dump trucks and utility vehicles.

Trucks, compactor truck, backhoes, Front End loaders, skid-steer loaders, screeners, tub-grinders, chippers and snow removal equipment.

Chain saws, light construction and other hand tools.

Forklift

Mowers and lawn/garden equipment.

Personal computer.

SHIFT/HOURS: Tuesday & Thursday 5:00 am - 3:30 pm & Friday & Saturday 12:00 pm - 10:30 pm

DAYS OFF: Sunday, Monday & Wednesday

WAGE: $21.49 per hour, with a .50 cent increase each six months until achieving the union base rate of $22.99.
