Server Technician

COMPUCOM IS LOOKING FOR A SERVER TECHNICIAN FOR THE MODESTO AREA.

This is a CONTRACT TO HIRE opportunity!

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position provides engineering and operational support for the server environment. The position requires strong hands on experience in a large enterprise environment supporting Windows Server technologies, Linux and Citrix. VMware and Scripting experience is preferred (ie PowerShell, VBScript).

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES INCLUDE:

- Installation, Configuration, Patching, Upgrade: Installation and configuration of Windows and Linux Servers, both physical and virtual. Install and configure Citrix Servers.
- Incident Management: Respond to failures and incidents for the server infrastructure and resolve. Diagnose and resolve issues with hardware, firmware or software for the server environment.
- Requests: Respond to request for assistance on server related issues: ie tune resources on Servers, setup print queues, etc.
- Vendor Calls: Initiate vendor calls for escalation of incidents, hardware failures or other inquiries on functionality, configuration, performance or tuning of vendor's hardware or software.
- On-Call Support: Participate in the after-hours on-call rotation to respond to and resolve high priority incidents outside of normal business hours.
- Documentation: Create, Update or Maintain documentation related to the server environment including processes and procedures for installation, configuration, tuning or other server related activities.
- Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on Servers, whether preventive or reactive. Activities can include replacing defective hardware, cleaning up disk space, etc.
- Scripting: Develop scripts for use in backups such as stopping/starting services to perform snapshot backups or configure backup services and processes.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND TECHNOLOGIES:

- 3 - 6 years of experience in IT working with server related technologies
- 1 - 3 years of experience supporting Citrix (preferred) or terminal services
- Experience supporting large enterprises: 500+ Servers
- Experience supporting: Windows 2000, 2003, 2008 and 2008 R2, Linux, Virtual Servers
- Physical requirements: Racking Servers, moving inventory; must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Must have a clean driving record; required to drive between buildings and support remote sites
