An excellent opportunity for a Senior Legal Council to join a leading insurance organisation based in their prestigious York location.

Role: Senior Legal Counsel
Duration: 6 months
Location: York
Rate: Negotiable

Role Purpose:
To act as Senior Legal Counsel, providing first class legal service including advice to UK Life businesses on all contractual and commercial issues.

Accountabilities:
*To be the lead lawyer in negotiating commercial contracts and proactively monitoring and mitigating legal risks in accordance with the Group Legal & Company Secretarial Standard.
*To actively manage the instruction of external lawyers in accordance with the Supplier Protocol, with a view to minimising expenditure on external suppliers.
*To proactively contribute to the sharing of expertise and resource across the legal function so as to make best use of internal resource, notwithstanding ownership and location of that resource.
*To develop other lawyers in the legal areas for which the holder is lead lawyer as required and ensure that they provide a first class legal service.

*To provide first class legal advice on a wide range of contractual and commercial often in the context of the financial services regulatory landscape and often of strategic significance.
*To prepare and negotiate legal and related documentation to work with the business to secure the best outcome for the company.
*To identify Legal risks and escalate appropriately as demonstrated by reports of material legal risk issues.

Desirable Skills and Experience:
*Qualified Solicitor
*Experience of dealing at senior management level.
*Proven ability to lead projects, negotiations and relationships with third parties and external advisers.
*Strong technical knowledge of contract law, company law, insurance law and general commercial law areas of law .
*Strong contract drafting skills, written communication and problem solving skills.
*Keen understanding of the needs of the business and our individual customers.
*Capable of working to tight timescales.
*Well organised with the ability to prioritise.
