Senior User Interface (UI) Software Engineer

Yoh has a contract opportunity for a SENIOR USER INTERFACE SOFTWARE ENGINEER to join our client in Philadelphia, PA.

JOB OVERVIEW:

Our client is looking for a creative software engineering Star with experience building user interface and visualization layers for complex web applications. Their architecture comprises a presentation layer (HTML5, JavaScript, jQuery, CSS3), a data layer (RESTful data API), and a middle layer in Ruby 1.9 and Rails 3.2 using the HAML templating language.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

- The software engineer will be responsible primarily for the care and feeding of the presentation layer.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor's in Science in computer science or equivalent.
- Five (5) plus years web application development experience using tools like HTML5, JavaScript, jQuery, and CSS3 in a complex, multi-tiered application.
- Experience with or strong desire for working in a high-energy, dynamic, client-driven startup environment.
- Ability to embrace and thrive in a hybrid software environment.
- Ability to work well independently and within a small but growing team.
- Strong problem solving skills and the ability to think outside the box; ability to work not only harder but smarter when the pressure is on.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent performance, caching, scaling, tuning skills.
- Familiarity with handling JSON, XML, etc.
- Facility in a Linux environment, preferably Ubuntu.
- Strong knowledge of software development methodologies, practices, and procedures, including source control systems (Git preferred).

PREFERRED JOB SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION:

- Master's in Science is a plus.
- Experience with jQuery UI, tag-based templating languages, testing tools (eg, Selenium, Jasmine), code quality tools (eg, JSLint), GIS (Google maps, ESRI) and cloud technologies.
- Not required but a strong plus: experience building complex scientific applications.
