Senior Unix Administrator

You will gather requirements from client organizations, design solutions, implement and test Enterprise Backup Solutions in UNIX environments. You will perform system administrator functions on Enterprise Backup and UNIX systems. You will also do the designs, installations, and maintenance of the Enterprise Backup solutions, UNIX Servers and Enterprise Storage systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Meets with CAP and IT department managers and staff to define enterprise backup and retention requirements, determines priorities, implements new and revised systems, and resolves complex system problems. 20%
- Performs hardware and software installations and upgrades within the AIX and Linux Servers and Enterprise Storage systems. Tests hardware and software to ensure appropriate functionality. 15%
- Writes computer programs and scripts in various computer languages including C, Java, and Shell Scripts. 5%
- Performs AIX and Linux system administration activities such as allocating file spaces, installing microcode, software updates, performance tuning, etc. Creates, implements, documents, and administers backup and recovery schemes; security and access controls; and departmental procedures and standards. 20%
- Performs in a leadership role as a project manager including directing the activities of assigned staff and contractors. 10%
- Performs extensive problem determination and problem resolution with the Enterprise Backups, AIX and Linux Servers and Enterprise Storage systems. 10%
- Monitors Enterprise Backups, AIX/Linux Servers and Enterprise Storage Systems. Takes action to eliminate real and potential bottlenecks. Develops strategies and standards to maintain network and server stability. 10%
- Protects CAP assets by designing and implementing computer security procedures as required. 10%
