Senior Technician/Graduate - Highways Design

We are looking for a Senior Technician/Graduate to assist in the development and implementation of a variety of schemes. The post will be based on secondment at Abaraeron, West Wales for an initial 6-month period although this is open to extension.

The purpose of this job is to design and deliver infrastructure work in a range of disciplines and for a range of both public and private sector clients.

The work will be varied and you will be required to assist with work which may include; Highway design, bridge inspections, general civil engineering design and road safety scheme design

Your key responsibilities include but will of course not be limited to:

* Taking responsibility for the preparation of infrastructure design projects

* Ensuring designs are carried out in accordance with current (DMRB) design standards taking into account CDM (Construction Design Management) legislation, whole life costing, value and risk management.

* Provide programme management as required

* To implement projects to meet the requirements of quality, health and safety, environmental standards and time to both national and corporate standards.

* Manage, report and maintain project cost plans.

As an experienced Technician or Graduate with some experience, it is anticipated that you will be able to demonstrate:

* HND/HNC Civil Engineering or related subject accredited by the Engineering Council OR
* BEng/BSc Civil Engineering or related subject accredited by the Engineering Council
* Working towards or have attained Chartered/lEng status with the ICE or CIHT
* Highways design experience, including knowledge of DMRB
* Knowledge of highway design procedures
* Knowledge of Contract preparation
* Proficient in a wide range of IT skills including Autocad, Civils 3D and Windows
* A working knowledge of standard highway and civil engineering specifications, conditions of contract and methods of measurement.
* Have a good knowledge and understanding of H&Safety and the CDM Regulations
* Full driving licence.
* Be able to establish and maintain good working relationships with Clients and colleagues
* Have good report writing skills
* Previous experience working for a civil engineering consultancy or suitable local authority environment
* Experience of working effectively as a team member
* Willingness on occasions to work weekends/evenings to attend meetings (not a regular requirement but necessary from time to time)
* A commitment to quality by a positive attitude to change management and ongoing promotion of organisational aims and objectives.

Ideally you will also:

* Be able to establish and maintain good working relationships with Clients and colleagues
* Have good report writing skills
* Previous experience working for a civil engineering consultancy or suitable local authority environment

An ideal technician will display:
* Willingness on occasions to work weekends/evenings to attend meetings (not a regular requirement but necessary from time to time)
* A commitment to quality by a positive attitude to change management and ongoing promotion of organisational aims and objectives.
