Senior Technical Support Engineer (Hadoop & SQL) Job

SR. TECHNICAL SUPPORT ENGINEER (HADOOP & SQL) needed for a CONTRACT opportunity with YOH'S CLIENT LOCATED IN SAN RAMON, CA.

- Hadoop (HDFS, HBASE, Hive, Pig)
- SQL (NoSQL, Oracle, SQL server, Postgres)
- Unix/Linux and Scripting language Shell, Python
- Icinga, Check_MK, Nagios, Zenoss

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

- You will be accountable for taking direct support cases from Data Services users & customers. Your primary responsibility will be providing support for businesses and customers that consume the data lake services.
- You will be responsible for managing support cases on a daily basis including initial triage, isolating and diagnosing the problem, ensuring issues are reproducible, and subsequent resolution of the issue.
- You will also be responsible for building the knowledge base to prevent recurrence of escalation for previously resolved case.
- You will be responsible for defining and building the escalation process into the Data services engineering team
- Continuous improvement of Incident Handle Times, First Contact Resolution, Escalation Rates, Self-Service/Community Experience
- Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation
- Training and mentoring junior engineers

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING TO THE TABLE:

- We need to have someone who has actively supported hadoop based systems or has been a hadoop administrator as well as have strong SQL skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering OR "STEM" Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
- 5+ years of experience in software industry with at least 3 years in software technical support. Saas support experience preferred
- Experience using Hadoop technologies (HDFS, HBASE, Hive, Pig) PivotalHD distribution preferred
- Facilitating access to large data sets utilizing Hive, HBASE and custom solutions
- Experience using database, SQL, ETL and data analysis skills
- Strong SQL skills including hands-on experience with NoSQL, Oracle, SQL server, Postgres
- Hands-on experience in working with Unix/Linux and Scripting language Shell, Python etc.
- Hands-on experience with automation tool set Chef and Puppet
- Hands-on experience with monitoring tools Icinga, Check_MK, Nagios, Zenoss etc.
- Ability to multi-task and work on multiple critical and high priority issues simultaneously
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills demonstrated by the ability to assimilate new information, understand complex topics
- Excellent written and verbal communication

- Knowledge of C, C++, Java, OSGI, Spring, XML, Spring, SQL, Oracle and Shell Scripting
- Must be able to work closely with Development, Product Management, QA and other key stakeholders
- Ability to work on multiple problems simultaneously
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills demonstrated by the ability to assimilate new information, understand complex topics
- Familiarity with SOA, cloud Computing and SOAP/REST Web Services Testing
- Strong familiarity with Linux OS and performance optimizations. Knowledge of Linux or Unix internals and administration is highly desired
- Applied experience with modern application technologies and design patterns including Cloud infrastructure, distributed computing, and horizontal scaling
- Robust understanding of database technologies and performance optimization
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Self-starter who is motivated to learn and is at ease working as part of a team of highly talented professionals
