SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR PORTLAND, OR CONTRACT OPPORTUNITY

Position Summary:
System and Web Operations Administrator is directly responsible for the day-to-day operations, availability, reliability, scalability and security of the client web platform as well as all internal server infrastructure, networking and storage systems.

REQUIREMENTS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

- After hours on-call responsibilities
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- React quickly to system issues or outages and take proactive action in repair and recover from hardware or software failures
- Handle analysis and resolution of break-fix occurrences
- Troubleshoot complex problems without assistance; examples include: server maintenance, uptime and access
- Maintain server health and availability
- Strong understanding of web applications, databases, web services and content delivery networks
- Hands-on experience supporting business critical web applications using ASP.NET, IIS 7.5 and Windows Server 2008
- Experience with data center solution elements including server platforms, access layer, virtualization, load balancing, storage and applications
- Experience in VMware/NetApp/Cisco environment, methodologies and processes
- Must be able to effectively troubleshoot storage availability, connectivity and performance issues from the file system through to the physical drive
- High knowledge and understanding of IP Networks, TCP/IP and network management protocols and network services
- Experience in high-availability and disaster recovery architectures and processes
- Knowledge and experience with databases
- Create and monitor core metrics to analyze efficiency and proactively identify bottlenecks
- Provide support for the software release process and related updates/patches
- Develop system tools and utilities to simplify, automate and support business operations
- Work closely with architects, developers and technical support staff
- Document standard operating procedures and maintain support knowledge base
- Recommend maintenance and code upgrades of all storage devices and associated software
- Perform Windows server installations and upgrades without assistance
- Plan and perform failover testing and troubleshooting
- Analyze application performance
- Conduct performance tuning and capacity planning
- Mentor more junior administrators regularly
- Strong customer service skills
- Provide second level desktop and phone support to all levels of the company via an internal helpdesk system, email, phone, and in person
- Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Demonstrated expertise in all aspects of administration of Microsoft server environments, including installation, management, application deployment and security
- Must have a strong knowledge of the OSI model, networks, routing, Firewalls, load balancing, high availability, TCP & UDP services, Network Operations Centers
- Experience troubleshooting environments with dozens of Servers
- Highly skilled in troubleshooting advanced web applications
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
- Ability to work extended hours and in a fast-paced operations environment (multitasking, flexibility needed)
- Good planning, time management and organization skills and the ability to document work performed effectively
- Self-starter and independent worker
- Continually seeks education in order to stay current with technology and business needs
- Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently
