Senior Systems Administrator

- 6 month contract
- Immediate start
- Must have own transport

An opportunity exists for a Senior Systems Administrator to provide technical leadership and oversee a variety of complex tasks and projects. The successful candidate will have a high level of technical knowledge and experience in more than one area and will be able to provide a source of expert advice and assistance.

Key accountabilities:

- Work closely with other members of the team, and provide technical leadership in all aspects of server design, administration and support.
- Coach or mentor other members of the team under the supervision of the Team Leader.
- Make recommendations to senior management
- Provide high-level technical advice on server hardware and operating system software design, configuration, operation, security and use to the Team Leader and IT Infrastructure Manager.
- Critically analyse complex technical alternatives to needs/problems, and contribute to strategic and tactical planning for the IT Infrastructure area in this context.
- In conjunction with various software/database specialists assist with the installation, configuration and support of various administrative software systems.
- Design, implement and maintain scripts and/or specialised software tools appropriate to the efficient and effective administration, monitoring and management of enterprise Servers.
- Monitor system performance, utilisation and reliability and contribute to capacity planning within this context.

Key skills:

- EXTENSIVE experience with Linux required - Red-Hat Enterprise preferred
- Experience with Sun Solaris required
- Experience with Unix/Linux system management tools (scripted provisioning, patching, performance monitoring, etc) - Red-Hat Satellite preferred
- Knowledge/experience with SAN systems - EMC preferred
