Senior Software Engineer Java

The chosen candidate will build, instrument, deploy and sustain various systems and services that power our user-facing applications. This is a great opportunity to deepen your skills in web services, the cloud, data storage/transport, mobile and open source.

Solid design and analysis skills and the ability to find innovative solutions to difficult problems are required. Ideally, you'll also bring some history of shipping consumer web experiences at scale.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Design and develop scalable Java applications with MongoDB/MySQL Back End
- Partner with Product Managers and Designers to develop guest-facing products
- Perform as an integral member of a team of experienced software engineers to build highly scalable and high performance web services
- Resolve defects, support testing effort, and deploy production code on a frequent basis
- Analyze the technical feasibility of product features and help to guide feature development and roadmap from a technical perspective
- Communicate and collaborate with partner teams across the division and the company to deliver co-owned projects successfully and on time
- Be the example of solid software engineering best practices, setting the bar high for other software engineers

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- BS/BA degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience required
- 5+ years of full software development life cycle experience
- 3+ years of building and delivering complex, highly scalable, reliable, and high performance Java web applications using service-oriented concepts, standards and implementations
- Experience building RESTful web services with strong knowledge of XML, JSON
- Experience developing solutions built on relational databases like MySQL and NoSQL databases like MongoDB
- Experience with UNIX/Linux Shell Scripting
- Experience with Maven source control systems (GIT preferred)
- Experience with Agile/Scrum methodology and practice in a multidisciplinary team
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Excellent communication skills to technical and non-technical audiences

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience with HTML5, CSS and JavaScript frameworks like jQuery
- Experience with any CMS like Drupal/Wordpress
- Experience with search engines like SOLR and recommendation engines like Mahout a big plus
- Knowledge of Continuous Integration Servers like Hudson/Jenkins
