Senior Software Engineer

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

AGS on behalf of RBS represents contract and temporary opportunities for RBS M&IB (Markets and International Banking). We have an outstanding contract opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer to make their mark with one of the world's largest international banking and financial services companies. In the role of a Senior Software Engineer, you will play an integral role in helping our client deliver market leading services that set it apart from it's competitors.

ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS:

The role is working for a key team within the business on a high profile, prestigious project which won the Banking Technology award for 'Best Use of IT in Corporate and Investment Banking'.

The product is essentially a database built using Oracle Coherence which holds the banks trade and valuation data in a fast and linearly scalable manner. It is built 'Test First' with a suite of more than 20,000 tests running in around fifteen minutes and development follows an Agile delivery model where great value is put on great people.

COMPETENCIES:

EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

- Computer Science or related scientific discipline preferred

STRONG TECHNICAL SKILLS

- Strong OO and TDD skills. The candidate will need to demonstrate their ability to write code test first
- Good Computer Science, data structures, algorithms etc
- An understanding of distributed systems from low level to broad architectural constructs

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

- Java, OO, TDD, JMS, Groovy and Mocking
