IT Services for Kent Police and Essex Police is offering a fixed term contract for a Senior Software Developer within the Software Development team to assist in the management and development of IT systems.

Kent Police and Essex Police rely heavily on technology to enable front line officers to carry out their role effectively. Based in Maidstone & Chelmsford, the Software Development team design and develop cutting edge mobile and web applications for the Intranet and Internet utilising Agile development methodologies. Our varied and interesting projects range from publishing small areas of information to large-scale database systems. We use a variety of technologies and languages to develop web & hybrid mobile applications including Java, HTML, JSF2, PrimeFaces, JQuery, SQL, Hibernate, XML/XSL, PhoneGap, AngularJS, Ionic, JavaScript and web services.

The successful applicant will experience full application life-cycle development, including the analysis, design, development, testing and implementation of systems. Very strong interpersonal skills are essential, as you will be required to liaise with staff at all levels. Responsibilities will also include managing and prioritising your own workload using project management disciplines and proactively seeking effective solutions to assist in the management of business processes.

We would be interested in interviewing candidates with experience of programming and scripting languages preferably in developing "web-based" solutions, most notably HTML, DHTML, CSS and JavaScript. Practical Java experience is essential. Some experience of Object Orientated design, web design and an understanding of relational databases is also essential.

There will be opportunities to explore new technologies and expand your current skill set through informal mentoring and 'on-the-job' learning. In this role you will be joining a small, friendly, close-knit development team.

Interested candidates should be able to demonstrate an interest in programming, evidence problem solving skills, able to manage their workloads, are motivated and have good team working and communication skills.

A technical test may be required to be taken as part of the selection procedure.

We would consider more junior developers applying for these positions, on a lower pay grade, as a development opportunity with the intention of training them to meet the technical standards necessary for the senior role.

Closing date: 10th January 2015. Interviews will follow shortly afterwards
