Senior Safety Engineer

Senior Safety Engineer is required to work on a customer site and to undertake system safety engineering activities.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the below tasks:

System safety engineering task activities covering the complete safety programme life cycle.
Active engagement with the programme system engineering domains to elicit safety related information and to provide feedback of assessments into the project.
Clear understanding and ability to undertake the following safety task activities:
Hazard identification, HAZOP/SWIFT, safety modelling, hazard/accident/risk safety target apportionment and aggregation, hazard analysis, SIL assignment, safety criteria derivation, risk assessment/reduction/acceptance, OSHA, OHHA, Zonal, ALARP evaluation/justification, safety case argument structure.
Familiar with producing system safety arguments and "system of system" safety case arguments.
Familiar with safety analysis techniques and tools, including RBDs, FMEA/CA, FFA, FTA, ETA, GSN, hazard logs.
Understanding of software safety requirements and techniques.
Compilation and management of safety case databases, eg hazard logs, safety issue logs.
Preparation/compilation/reviewing of safety case technical reports and plans including hazard identification/analysis reports, safety case reports, hazard log reports, safety programme plans, safety criteria reports.
Definition of safety acceptance tests for release for the purposes of trials, prototype and/or series production systems/platforms.

The successful candidate will have the below skills:

A safety engineer with significant experience of undertaking system safety assessments on UK defence programmes through to certification and customer approval for use within military land system applications.

This to include:

Experience in producing comprehensive Safety Cases in accordance with DEF STAN 00-56 and POSMS at platform level including all primary sub-systems and mission systems.
Experience of safety programme management.
Derivation and setting of safety criteria/requirements.
Undertaking hazard identification, hazard analysis and risk assessment to include HAZOP, SWIFT, checklists, FMEA(CA), FTA, ETA, GSN techniques.
Producing and assessing tolerability and ALARP arguments.
Producing robust safety arguments and reports.
Familiar with recognized standards and procedures including Def Stan 00-56, IEC 61508, JSP 454, POSMS, JSP 375, JSP 815.
Familiar with UK/EU current product legislation including LVD, EMC Directive, R&TTE Directive, RoHS, WEEE, Battery Directive and applicable vehicle/road usage Directives.
Familiar with recognized standards and procedures including Def Stan 00-250, JSP 390, Def Stan 07-85, ISO 14001-2004.
Understanding and application of safety and general purpose tool sets, eg Fault Tree, Cassandra, MS Office tools.

The successful candidate must be willing to undergo a security vetting procedure.
