Senior Risk Manager

Background
Our client is currently recruiting for a Senior Risk Manager for a 6 month contract based in London. You will be required to undertake the development and establishment of policy and process for the Departmental risk cycle. You will also work with the Head of Internal Audit to ensure that the knowledge gained from transition work is appropriately fed into arrangements for the departmental business as usual systems for risk management.

Main Duties/Responsibilities
You are required to have the responsibility,knowledge and competency to further develop, embed and utilise a framework for the management of risk.

Key experience required:
- Technical Expertise - suitable and sufficient experience of developing and implementing risk management
- Communication Skills - communicate revised policy and processes to all relevant stakeholders with highly developed oral and written skills
- Analysis and use of evidence - highly developed analytical skills particularly around risk register submissions and collation of risks for effective reporting and escalation

Outputs/Deliverables to be achieved
- Review and revise existing risk management policies and processes to ensure that these reflect current best practice and are fit for purpose, this will require close working with management to ensure that revisions are appropriate
- Develop the central support and oversight function that will support directorates in operating risk identification and management systems that ensure that key business risks are properly escalated. This will require development of a detailed understanding of the key deliverables for each directorate - Assist directorates in embedding the revised policy and processes and providing education and training as appropriate to support this
- Establish,communicate and facilitate the use of appropriate risk management methodologies, tools and techniques on an ongoing basis
- Support development of group assurance model for the 'health family' in relation to risk management.

Key Accountabilities:
- Complete a review of the policy and processes around risk management for agreement by the Accounting Officer, Senior Managers and the Audit & Risk Committee
- Implement the agreed revised policy and processes including setting up the central oversight function - Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the business and stakeholders acting as the professional challenge function or critical friend
- Develop and implement effective reporting arrangements with all relevant stakeholders

You will also support the Head of Internal Audit to:
- Develop a risk management strategy which takes into accoun the changes within the organisations and the needs of the department going forward
- Develop and establish a new risk management cycle to support the strategy, including board reporting and templates
- Provide advice and support to directorate leads to ensure process feeds are in place

Skills/Experience Required
1. Risk, Control and Governance - Understands the risk, control and governance arrangements of the organisation and how these relate to the work of internal audit
2. Audit Strategy - Understands how the work of internal audit is determined in order to allow the Head of Internal Audit to offer an overall opinion on the organisation's risk management, control and governance arrangements
3. Management of Audits - Uses professional skills to execute assignments which achieve audit objectives
4. Audit Reporting - Appropriately communicates the results of audit work to enable improvements in internal control and to provide assurance

Formal Qualifications Required
Professional and Recognised Risk Management Qualification
